It was an open secret that Jimbo's relationship with FSU was fraying. Not just because of results, but because of off field issues. He was looking for a new spot.

We intentionally gave him an above market deal with a ridiculous long term guarantee. Nobody believed it was necessary. But our leadership wanted to make a "statement." We would give him an ego contract, and also award him a national title plaque to celebrate our genius. Self affirmation so to speak. That plaque was really BMDs giving themselves a Pat on the back.

The psychology of this approach is fascinating.

We knew we didn't need to give him that contract. He would have come for less and without they guarantee.

We have to overpay because we're A&M. Every head coach knows this is the dead end of their career, so we have to pay the premium.

That's why we need to hire an up and coming coordinator, or a high performing coach at a FCS school looking to move up. Even if it doesn't work out, won't cost a fortune and they have plenty of runway left in their careers.

With such a longstanding record of mediocrity, we certainly can't be considered a premiere coaching stop for any heavy hitter unless we load up the brinks truck, and we've seeing now what a huge mistake that is.

Sumlin was the up and comer from U of H. We went that route. Jimbo had the bear skins on the wall, and he had a couple more in him, but it's time for him to full time ranch.

How about this... an up and comer... also winning at a high level...at a big time program? Back up the Brinks truck for Lincoln Riley. He can even say Momma called him home to Texas.

It's not just in football that we give contracts/extensions that are idiotic. We've done it in basketball and other sports as well.

Do we have a sip in position to negotiate all our contracts? Because I can't imagine why we're negotiating the contracts that we have unless we're intentionally sabotaging ourselves. I'm bad at negotiating contracts, and I know that neither terrible contracts.

Overpayment is bad enough. Where we screw the pooch is with the crazy contract extensions. We need pay for performance clause but it will never happen.

Why do people always say, "we?"

This is why we need someone young who will work for a performance based contract! 20 million for a National Championship! Someone in their 30s fresh and new!

It's because we only hire old coaches with no motivation and nothing to prove.

The real problem here is whoever authorizes these contracts. That person needs to be fired.
