The new rule about the running clock is NOT helping this situation. Every time there's a score, it seems like they're piling on more commercials to compensate.

The networks need to make their money. They will not be denied lest they stop televising games.

There are millions of different ways to advertise. Cable companies are stuck on one. I don't blame them, cable is a dinosaur that fights every type of change while milking every cent they still can.

Imo, there will be a streaming company that decides to buck the trend eventually and will be able to secure massive TV deals as a result. My money is on Amazon, as they are already monkeying around with the outdated tv commentator model in favor of more of a podcast feel live watching the games.

Cable companies get syndication slots They can fill with local ads. It's not their fault they can't innovate on how the game is presented. They're rebroadcasters not content providers…

Less would be more.

The game is no longer football, exactly.
A more appropriate name would be "hurry up and wait ball".

I see 2 options:

1. Charge more for a commercial but have fewer.
2. Take notes on how Premier League does adverts. Commercials slide in while play is happening.

Premier League is a different sport. You don't have game clock stoppage in soccer so they have to show commercials while the game is still playing.

Unless football eliminates the ability for TV to call a timeout, we're not going to get to that point.

ESPN has single-handedly destroyed the college football atmosphere. Everything the touch turns to *****

You can absolutely still take a page from their book….

Coach calls a timeout? Quit making it a 3-4 minute commercial timeout, 30 second timeout is all it is. Split screen commercial.

Similar for minor injuries. Go to commercials or do a split screen but once the players off the field start play. Now they show replays and the player for a minute, go to a 3-4 minute commercial break, player walks off the field almost immediately, and we still have to wait for a full commercial break.

3 and out and punt, no commercial break.

Plenty of examples of how all these timeouts aren't needed.

They missed a damn interception in the Florida State/LSU game as the commercial was still playing before they came back to the game. All we saw were the highlights of the huge play that already happened. Embarrassingly bad.

Yes, I saw that. At first I couldn't figure out what was going on.

Another disrupting thing is the lack of field situational awareness. When the game pops back on 2 seconds before the snap with several player winged out off camera: how do you even understand what's going on during that play?

I'd much rather they field commercials the whole game long on 1/3 of the screen than to get the current choppy experience.

This has been a slow creep for years and there is a point folks will tune out. The WoodlandsAggie no huddle version on YT is 54 minutes, not 4 hours.

I went to ESPN+ last year just to watch some games with minimal commercials. Sure they are B games but not such a waste of time.

This video has some A&M shots but is mostly about how much commercials are hurting the college football game experience and why.
Perhaps commercials could be limited, like the NFL does.
About 4 commercials per quarter would be good with me.

No commercials are good for me... that's why I record every game with YouTube TV, so I can watch later and skip all the commercials and half time BS. I also turn off the volume so I don't have to listen to the constant clattering of the announcers. You ought to give it a try..... a very peaceful way to watch college football.

The ONLY valid ANNUAL goal for ALL Aggie Sports is a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

Wait a minute. Premier League is a different sport? Why didn't anyone tell me this?

Just another point in this. Why the hell does espn still act like normal games are 3 hours as far as the guide and scheduling? I mean everyone who's ever watched college football knows they aren't 3 hours….

Commercials are brutal. Takes some enjoyment out of casually watching a game. Streaming nowadays killed the tolerance for commercials. Would pay extra for a device to auto mute the tv at commercials. Got no tolerance for it.

Drug ad
Alcohol ad
Dick pill ad
Geico
Lemu Emu
Home Depot
Some ******s buying a new lexus

Never ends.

I do the same.

I don't recall which game, but one time I over a 15-minute actual time span (not the game clock, I mean the recording went from 1h13m to 1h28m) on the recording, there was 3-minutes of game play and 12 minutes of commercials.

This, love having to find the game on another "AP" and when you click it "THIS GAME HAS NOT STARTED YET". By the time it comes one, somehow we are 4-minutes into the 1st quarter.

Someone should file a class action suit against the providers and Disney/ESPN for not delivering what we are paying for.
