Did you not watch the game? We scored on our last 2 possessions and 8 or 11 overall. Plus we scored 50+.

We score more than 65.
Opponents do not score.

This gives the mental edge to both O and D.

We did punt twice I believe. I specifically remember one of them because #12 was on the returner like white on rice.

Only reason we didn't "run up the score" was we played a team that spent 3/4 of the game hell bent on running out the clock.

We practically scored on every possession including our FG at the end. Scored 52... we did run it up on them!

Some of us were watching a different game. Max passed with under 7 minute to go taking deep shots to the end zone. He was not trying to run out the clock. We scored a touchdown to Moose and a field goal for 10 points in the process with the game well in hand snd decided. Looks like running up the score to me.

They held the ball a lot longer than we did. Hard to run up the score when your defense can't get mulriple 3 and outs. Almost 10 min more. To compare, OU had the ball almost 15 min longer than whoever they played.

Jimbo's losing control at running up the score.

I'm confused how winning by 42 points isn't running up the score. We ran two minute drills at the end of both half's.

This one was not bad but I'm looking for a signature running up that no one will forget. Like 65+ to nothing. The opponents must be mentally wrecked and unable to score.
Frankly, we're not that good yet.

We would need to be able to "run up the score" with our backups.

Did Oklahoma keep their starters in for the entire game when they got those 60+ point wins? I don't think so.

Yea no kidding. If Max had been more accurate, we would have hung 60.

Yes, this is what I think it is.
We are definitely better than last year, but to play with the big boys we need to be able to do this every now and then. I bet Bama will have at least 1-2 of these wins this year.

Good discussion.

The best part is not one poster said "We are classy, we don't do such things". It is time to put the Cubs-esque Lovable Losers tag by the side and win something that matters.

Honor. 2nd and 3rd team players got to play including our backup QB. Very important.

The last two seasons our starting quarterback got injured and we had to rely on the backup.

This season, we are upset that we pulled our starting quarterback in garbage time and got some playing time for our backup.

Noted. It wasn't the offense that "prevented" us from "running up the score" as proposed.

To do what the OP is suggesting would require a defense that caused more three and outs and more takeaways.

The style UNM was playing was going to be hard to have a bunch of 3 and outs. But we did get 3 or 4 and a TO

Part of it was the New Mexico offense shortened the game by running down the play clock nearly every time.

We scored 8 touchdowns on 12 possessions? (one being stopped because it was half time).. and most of the scores were fast too...

7 TDs
1 FG
1 blocked FG
2 punts

11 total possessions...8 scores. With the new clock rules and the aforementioned UNM clock strategy, there are only so many points available to be scored in the game. Unless you get a pick-6, scoop and score, or a kick return TD, it's really tough to score more points than we did on Saturday night.

Oregon scored 81 points against Portland - who is waaaaaay worse than New Mexico - and the Ducks' only had one drive lasting more than 4 minutes. They were aided by a fumbled Portland punt, that set UO up with a short field and a really quick TD. UO scored 11 TDs, kicked a FG, and punted once. They got 13 possessions in their game and their Time of Possession for each drive was as such:

2:34 - TD...and a 2-point conversion
1:08 - TD
2:02 - TD
1:37 - TD
0:25 - TD
2:06 - TD
3:18 - TD
0:51 - TD
2:48 - TD
5:43 - FG
3:54 - TD
2:07 - Punt...what the heck???
2:46 - TD

Facts on this board are never a welcome thing. Trust me.

In 2003 we beat Baylor 73-10 to prove how good we were. We lost later that same year 77-0 to OU.

We were throwing late and kicked a FG on last drive. That is keeping the pedal down with backups in and they get some experience I am good with how he handled it.

The rest of us are concerned about a stat that matters (wins and losses). You are concerned about a stat that doesn't (margin of victory).

I hope we have a great season--10-2 or better--and then while we're off enjoying it, you're in the corner complaining our average margin of victory wasn't enough.

All top teams run up the score to make a statement.

Saturday's results:
#1 Georgia 48 - UT Martin 7
#2 Michigan 30 - East Carolina 3
#3 Ohio State 23 - Indiana 3

LSU was #5 coming into the weekend. I assume they ran up the score as well?

Seems like you may have misinterpreted my post. The OP stated all top teams run up the score. I was pointing out that the three top ranked teams DID NOT run up the score and that his premise is completely wrong.

All top teams run up the score to make a statement. Oregon also did it yesterday. So did Oklahoma.

We never do it, we never have an emphatic win, we always leave some change for the opponents to pick up. Why don't we have the same killer instinct? If we shut out a team 77-0 for example, we is a great confidence booster for us and puts future opponents on the back-foot mentally.

Time to get rid of the "let's be classy" nonsense and turn that into "let's be winners".

Pretty ridiculous to have this complaint.

The Aggies accomplished everything they needed to. They won 52-10 while staying pretty basic. They got to play tons of players and didn't have major injury.

NM spent the whole game running the play clock all the way down, which limited Ag possesions. Just so silly to have this complaint. Ags won and covered 38 point spread. Perfect game.

It's not gentlemanly and margin of victory isn't nearly as large of a factor in calculating computer scores on the committee's end anymore; about three quarters of the final rating is pure strength of schedule and strength of record. Margin of victory counts for maybe... 5 percent of the total score. It's a fairly insignificant factor and the committee has straight up said as much in the past, if I'm not mistaken.

LOL at complaining about a 52-10 Week 1 win after the 2021 and 2022 seasons we had.
