Press Conference: Fisher, Aggies entering third week of fall practice
Fall Camp is in full swing in Aggieland as the Maroon & White continue to prepare for the Sept. 2 opener with New Mexico. On Monday afternoon, Jimbo Fisher, Trey Zuhn and Demani Richardson spoke to the media as the Aggies will hold their 11th fall practice later today.
The following are live, paraphrased notes from Jimbo Fisher’s Monday afternoon media availability:
- The health of the team is really good. Donovan Green will be out. He has torn his ACL.
- I like the dynamic that we have right now. Guys seem to be locked in and driven. Situations develop chemistry. That’s on any team.
- The way you use running backs is who is ready to play. You want to have depth. Every team in the league has great defensive people. Certain guys can carry it 25 times a game. Devon Achane could take large volumes. It varies. You would like to have a bunch of them because of the knicks and knacks.
- Max Wright was banged up with a toe injury that we got healed up. Theo Melin Öhrström caught seven or eight balls in the scrimmage. You hate losing Donovan Green, but the other guys have had good camps. Donovan wasn’t running with the ones at first because of an early injury.
- Back when I was playing, with an ACL injury, you probably didn't play again. Now, you come back stronger. You have to keep them engaged, and you use their advice. They are by the coaches, and you start to see the big picture.
- You are looking for overall execution. It’s a +/- next to the play and what caused that. Hopefully, someone's number doesn't come up a bunch. You want consistency.
- I am very pleased with our snappers. Our kickers are hitting the balls. They are not mishitting. Returning-wise, Ainias Smith and Moose Muhammad have been returning punts, and Bryce Anderson is a guy we looked at. Le’Veon Moss too.
- We had good physicality in the scrimmage. Chase Bistonis and Dametrious Crownover have been doing well. Mark Nabou is a jack of all trades. He can play anywhere. Trey Zuhn played through an injury last year.
- There is no one who loves football more than Shemar Turner. Pleased with Malick Sylla. He has put on size. Quarterback decision-making was good. The accuracy was solid. Good first scrimmage.
- Jayvon Thomas is a natural football player. Dalton Brooks can play. Bravion Rogers too. They will play and help us. They hustle, listen and learn. They like contact. I am very excited about them.
- Our whole freshman group, too. TJ Shanahan has a chance to be a really good player. I have been pleased with the linebackers. DJ Hicks, we recruited the right guys.
- Trey Zuhn can play across the board. Last year, his shoulders and knees were bothering him. He did not miss a play or practice. He is a tough son of a gun.
- Take care of business, and you will move up in the AP Poll.
- Things like the national championship in Houston are your goals. You have to focus on your habits. It would be easy travel.
- Kam Dewberry, Mark Nabou and Layden Robinson have played well inside. Remington Strickland is coming on. I have been pleased with it.
