Howdy from Lochow Ranch Pond & Lake Management

My name is Kyle Shirley '14 and I'm an account executive at Lochow Ranch. We are a turnkey pond and lake management company who specializes in everything from fish stocking and vegetation control to lake construction, floating docks, fountain & aeration systems and much more. Owner and President John Jones (class of '02) stuck around Aggieland after spending five full years getting a degree in WFSC and making sure the Dixie Chicken had at least one customer each day. With a few years of lake and ranch management behind him and a fresh wildlife and fisheries degree in hand he started Lochow Ranch Pond and Lake Management in 2003.

Since then Lochow Ranch has grown to be the industry leader in lake management, servicing lakes in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Alabama. Today, if not managing or building lakes John can be found at the farm chasing his feral kids or up in AK looking for cold weather and moose.

There was this time back in the early '90s when I hooked a healthy freshman chick at Denim and Diamonds. My roommates kinda laughed, but they were still on the bank testing their lines and I was below deck trying to keep my tip up and line taught. ;-) Does that count?

Welp, I didn't read the post. Hey OP, come fix my pond in my front yard.

I caught a black bass that weighed 22 pounds. I fought him for quite sometime on my light tackle. I'm was fishing from the bank and had forgotten my net . I got him within a foot and a half of the bank and the monster got off. If it wasn't for the fact that the fish had scales I would have never known how much he weighed.

85 lb black tip shark off Galveston.

Yes, not a private lake but freshwater would be about a 3 lb bass.

131 pound halibut off Homer, Alaska. Nice moose photo, by the way.

Just saw this- awesome! and love the family pic. I may be calling you soon. Only thing that scares me is the "industry leader" tag. That usually means we charge more than everyone else.

He was class of '76, about 6'-2" and could really run fast.

Biggest fish was a 70# drum in Corpus Christi Bay while on my dad's old shrimp boat.
The biggest thing was a 150# sea turtle accidentally hooked in paddle while fishing off of Bob Hall Pier (near Corpus Christi but is in the Gulf of Mexico).
Got the turtle off and threw it back, it swam off.

800 lb plus tiger shark. Didn't bring it in the boat for obvious reasons…

I caught a 1.1 lb Cichlid in the San Marcus River using a worm.

That doesn't sound like much - but the state record is 2.02 lbs.
Catching anything that is over half of the state record I think might be considered a big deal?

Can't answer because we didn't weigh or measure because we were doing catch & release. Either a striped marlin at Cabo or a tarpon at Boca Grande, Fla. each in 130 lb range. Biggest I kept was a 92 " sailfish. Only kept it because it died. Gave the fish to locals but measured it and have a replica on my wall.

I'd take a 30" speckled trout over any of them. Haven't come close yet.

Lochow is the best lake management company I've been around. I have three fly rod state records on their managed lake and chasing one more.

75 pound flathead in a seine net. Growing up, one of my best friends dad was a farmer. He bought a new place to plant that had a decent sized lake on it that he was going to irrigate from, so we seined it out. Several 30+ pounders and some pretty big bass too

On my 12th birthday I caught a 8 lb, 9 oz largemouth bass on a bullfrog hula popper out of the tank on my family's ranch. There's nothing like catching a big bass on a top water lure, and when this fish blew it up I knew I had a big one. There was a ring of nasty submerged vegetation around the shore that extended about 10 or 12 feet into the water. I dragged that fish into the weeds as far as I could without breaking my line or my rod and then started yelling to my dad for help. I told him it was a big fish and he begrudgingly waded out there in the thick, slimy moss and weeds and stinky black mud and grabbed it. He lost a shoe in the muck during the process, but was happy to do it once he saw the size of that fish. It was my largest bass for many years until I caught three 10+ lb fish in lake Amistad (in one day) a few years ago. Those are two great memories!
