What are some of the best streaming apps for Aggie football? Thinking about doing away with dish, so iPhone and home tv will need to be used.

The most convenient one is YouTube TV. But you are just going to replace a dish bill with a YouTube one for the most part.

Except that the you tube tv bill will be much smaller

and you don't have all the bs channels

and you can edit your channel lineup to eliminate the channels you don't want to see

and you can order your channel lineup so the channels are in the order you want

other than that, is the same, for the most part.

Try a free trial of YoutubeTV.. It is free for a week, I think, at least it used to be. There is no contract, it is month to month. Check it out. I made the switch 2-3 years ago. The first step is the hardest. Several other streaming options available other than Youtube tv. There is Fubo, Sling and Hulu just off the top of my head.

Try it, nothing to lose, and I'm pretty sure you'll look back and wish you did it sooner. That was my experience anyway.

Hulu+Live TV

better than Youtube TV because you also get Hulu created original content

*** BE WARNED I saw ESPN+ mentioned above but - ESPN+ does not get you anything really by they way. ESPN+ is NOT just a streaming solution for the ESPN channels it is for stuff that is NOT on the channels. Smaller colleges are on there and some of the other college sports like volleyball, etc.. It has golf (not the major events), lacrosse, UFC, La Liga, Bundesliga, Tennis, etc.

You need a provider that carries the ESPN stations. ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and SECN specifically and you need CBS for the occasional game on there. Pretty much Hulu+LiveTV, Youtube TV, Sling and Fubo are your choices. If you have a provider with the ESPN channels then you can login using your provider credentials and use the ESPN app to watch their content that is streamed from those channels or you can just watch that channel on the providers app. But an ESPN+ subscription does not get you that same content.

PS - I really don't recommend doing it via your iphone. Get a simple roku device and connect it to your TV.

Ok I haven't checked in a while but a basic dish package is $79.99 and the YouTube TV package is $72.99. If that qualifies as a MUCH smaller bill then we have different ideas on what much smaller means.

For reference YouTube TV used to be in the $40's and what I would consider much less expensive. I have YouTube TV and love it but it's not significantly cheaper IMHO.

YouTubeTv is def where it's at. I've had it 5 years and love it. 80 bucks after tax and the basic package has more sports channels than any other service I've had.

I have to admit though I've never had Hulu. Live TV.

Cool, when I switched my Dish bill was 129.99/month, Sounds like you were getting a much better deal than I was. It was still hard for me to make the switch. Kind of the "devil you know is better than the devil you don't" deals.

I've had all and actually like Direct Stream the best now that I can use it at two different houses at same time.

If you have someone to split with it's the way to go imho

The problem with that is you are not comparing apples to apples.

Basic package on Dish does not include - SECN, ACCN, B10N, CBSSN, FS2, Golf channel, NFL Network - all of which are included on Hulu+Live TV. You need either Dish's additional Multi Sports Package or one of the higher level packages to get those. Although sometimes they offer that as an incentive for new customers only.

I was never on dish but my cable package was costing me nearly $300/month with HD package and sports package and internet included. Admittedly I had 300+ channels I did not need. But that's the way the packages worked.

Hulu+Live TV is $70 per month and internet is about $50 per month. Was a big savings for me.

And other benefits
- no hardware to set up or configure
- no wait for an installation
- no hardware failure issues to deal with (i've never called customer support for anything)
- doesn't go out in heavy rain storms
- month to month cancel anytime online
- unlimited DVR
- watch anywhere (phone, laptop, TVs etc.) and while travelling
- Hulu original content included
- currently includes both Disney+ and ESPN+ (ad versions) it s bit more for those with no ads.

So add the sports package cost ($13) and the cost of Hulu content ($8 - $14 with no ads) Disney+ ($8-$11 with no ads) and ESPN+ ($10) to your basic Dish price.

And unlimited cloud DVR. With the click of 1 button, you can record every single NCAAF football game and watch them when you damn well feel like it.

This. It's just not as convenient.

One savings on Hulu+Live sports or yttv versus dish or direct TV is the ease of pausing months of service versus paying for the months you don't really need for live sports.

One big factor for some is the regional sports network situation. If you want it to watch a favorite pro team, those listed streaming options are not a solution. However, with the near collapse of Bally's/Diamond, that could all change by next the next NHL, NBA or MLB season

Does the dvr on Hulu still require you to watch commercials during sports tho? That's what made me switch to yt and i haven't looked back (also catch up via key plays is a fantastic feature).

Yttv had also added split screens so you can watch up to 4 games at once

Probably for more money…possibly for more options. But maybe it will be immeasurably worse…

Just get YouTube TV. It's only about $220 for the regular reason then cancel it or add another month for the bowl games.

I disagree. I use YTTV with an AppleTV and hardwired connection - swiping down makes it super convenient to change stations and you can even get live look in's if you highlight the box.

To answer OP's question, ESPN app is best.

W/ your dish subscription, you already have access to it. You can't access the programming you want unless you have a provider you are already paying for ESPN and SECN. You can download ESPN app to your phone, tablet, smart TV, roku, amazon fire, and I'm guessing Apple TV. When you first try to access the programming, ESPN app will ask you for your TV provider. Pick from the list, follow the provider authentication prompts and access is granted. W/ the ESPN app you can get just about every Aggie FB, M/W Basket Ball, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball and W Soccer game. Exception being non-conference road games depending on the opponent. Some providers like Sling have ESPN3,SECN+,ACCN+ content, but I've found Roku ESPN app is best.

I currently have Sling. I switched recently from YouTube TV b/c they increased their price and dropped MLBTV. Siing also has more programming including on demand movies and History Channel. It is also $5/mo less. Sling Orange and Blue package.

To compare just about every stream provider I use Suppose TV

https://www.suppose.tv/tv

You can enter several parameters to search including channels and location.

My setup:

3 older Samsung TV's(2 "smart" that no longer support the "smart" function)

3 Rokus(2 ethernet connected, 1 wifi connected)

xfinity "high speed" internet w/ a cable modem I own at $60/mo. It is really the only option where I live. Home 5G cellular is now available, but I haven't looked into the cost. W/ 5g, I'm guessing I'll have to lease the modem which is always a deal breaker for me.

Sling Orange/Blue Subscription at $75/ mo cancel anytime. I have used YouTube TV and Fubo TV in the past. Currently Sling seems to be best option. I have no loyalty to any of them. Just look for best option that gives me access to ESPN and SECN. See Suppose TV above.

Also, all my TV's are connected to an old school antenna. In the greater Houston area, I get 65+ channels(not all english speaking)free over the air.

It has been years since I had a cable/satellite subscription. It may be different now, but most likely you are paying to lease each set top box. My Rokus replace the set top box and I own them. A couple of my Rokus are 5+ yrs old and work fine versus my older "smart tvs" that are no longer supported.

The above is for the benefit of us olds and tech challenged.

The rest, please carry on.

I think it's dependent on the channel.

I can ff through History Channel recordings, but not AMC.

ETA: I have Sling

One issue we had with Sling was that they don't carry most the networks that you can use with an antennae. For us, we had great reception with NBC and ABC, but Fox was iffy, and CBS was no good. No CBS was a problem on Saturdays and Sundays. Also, while I could get the reception for those networks, I couldn't DVR anything on them, and given I start watching every game about 2 hours after it starts, that was also a problem. They also didn't carry the RSN I wanted.

However, if you have good TV reception with an antennae and don't care about the RSNs, I would have stayed with Sling.

Another thing with YTTV is the ability to pause your service. I decided to pause around May time frame this year. Not a whole lot of things I'm interested in watching during the Summer. Plan on resuming service once football starts. Doing this can drastically decrease your overall spending for the year.
