I'll do it for him. He completed two less passes than Mond in the NFL.

Hmmm, Mond completes 2 passes & has been relegated to the practice squad; TexAgs posters claim SUCCESS!! Johnny Football actually played more games and at least scored a TD or 2 in the NFL at the same position; TexAgs posters claim FAILURE.

Is this simple bias b/c of Johnny's polarizing nature once he got into the league, OR, are the Mond defenders propping him up to obscure his polarizing actions during the Covid season?

Why not compare both of their careers to Tannehill instead so as to lead to the correct conclusion that both Johnny & Mond SUCK at being a NFL quarterbacks?
While I tend to agree with this sentiment. Nobody in the last 20 years came with the kind of hype as JFF did. Along with that hype comes the inevitable letdown. JFF didn't have the mental game for an NFL QB. I'm not talking about the intelligence or instinct (which he had in spades),..I'm talking about the personal discipline and singular mental focus that is demanded of the most high-profile player on any given squad. JFF was lacking in those important qualities.

JFF also got drafted by a dumpster fire NFL team with no offensive line and new offensive scheme that the whole team was learning from scratch. That is a challenge no 1st year QB should have to deal with. Twice the HC gave JFF starting opportunities at QB in the same year and twice he failed in the preparation and lead up to those starts. I honestly don't think I've ever seen a QB who was so self-destructive off the field as JFF. A real tragedy.

I don't think anybody would call Mond a NFL success. I believe the question is whether or not Mond "made it". He did. He made it to the NFL and earned a paycheck.

Yep. Love him or hate him, he never lived up to the hype of him coming out of HS as a gunslinger.

The best chance of having a long career as an nfl backup qb is never playing enough to be exposed that you can't play. Once you get a lot of playing time they can't keep you as a project anymore. If you are good in the locker room and a good student of the game you can make a good living as a back up nfl qb! 4 years 4 games get you fully vested for nfl retirement.

After taxes I'd say still in the top .0001% of his Aggie class after 3 years.

I'm guessing 5 yards less passing and 2 less completions. In other words, pretty comparable to Mond.

just goes to show how clueless many nfl scouts are. to give someone who is that inaccurate a 3rd round grade was asinine.
He couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.
What's really bad is he was the best we had at the time. was ridiculous.

And if he's like most in the NFL he's already overleveraged his entire contract and will be broke as soon as he's out of the NFL.

Isn't 3 years enough to get on the retirement status- or is it 5 years?

Sadly, I think it's time we face the fact that QBs who come to play in Jimbo's offense are never going to amount to a hill of beans in the NFL.

Spot on analysis. Pretty amazing that Tannehill, originally a WR, is the best QB we've ever had. And, equally amazing, he still managed 844 yards receiving as a freshman.

Kind of amazing to see the vitriol directed towards Mond by fellow Aggies, and I don't get it. He might not be the best Aggie QB of all time, and he might not hold the same political ideals as some (or most) on here do. Same with those questioning how/why he even made it to the NFL. Can't you be happy for someone from your own alma mater who's managed to earn a living in one of the most competitive professions anywhere?
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Tannehill wasn't originally a WR. He was recruited and on scholarship as a QB, but played WR because he was a hell of an athlete, fast and we needed all of the help we could get at WR at that time. He was 3rd string behind McGee and JJ in '08, 2nd string in '09 and started 2nd string in '10 before he replaced JJ because of JJ's problems as a result of his shoulder surgery.

Ahhh yes, I forgot that somewhere along the way when stupid topics like professional sports contracts were discussed, we changed from the actual value of the contract to what the value of the take home pay is after taxes, insurance and other things are deducted.

Remember to apply the same logic when complaining about Jimbo's income, mmmkay?

I hope he saved every penny that he could. I know I would have struggled in my 20s with making that kind of money and not getting caught up in spending like crazy as some of his teammates certainly must do.

At the college level, Kellen Mond was a lightning rod, and I didn't like how he disrespected the Sully Ross statue. However, he was durable and led us to a 9-1 and No. 4 finish in 2020. Of course, experienced and healthy offensive line and Mike Elko's defense were also major contributors. At the NFL level, Mond's ceiling is a backup because of fierce competition from more talented quarterbacks.

Most of us could retire with $5 million. I'd happily warm a bench for that $$
A lot of this. There's also only 32 starters, 32 backups, and maybe another 16 or so third stringers since most teams don't carry three QBs anymore. That makes Mond one of literally less than 100 people on the entire planet who can hold down a job as an NFL QB, even if it's as a second stringer. That said, the backup is usually just as important as the starter, as they're out there watching what the starter isn't and relaying that information in while they're on the sidelines; it's not glamorous, but it's a job.

Spot on history! Ryan's HS coach was a good friend and told me "he can play any position on the field". He could have started earlier anywhere else, but had to wait for his 'turn' behind the great JJ. Imagine the records he might hold had he been on campus when Jimbo arrived.

Edd Hargett '69 enjoyed an 8-10 year career as a backup to the great Archie Manning at New Orleans in the 70's.
