Determining the top 4-5 teams and the bottom 4-5 is pretty easy but imo not a great deal of difference between 6-11
As stated early the Vols are bottom half and there is a world of difference between The Vols and the Commodores
I understand, and I'm not sure that I think the top half/bottom half deal was the way to go, but that's the criteria that they set, and if you try to change Bama's permanent opponents by swapping LSU for someone else (and it's LSU that causes the problem in Saban's mind, not UT), then that sets off a chain reaction.
Frankly, I think they should have mostly ignored past performance and focused on preserving rivalries (or reviving some). After all, the tougher your 3 permanent opponents, the easier your 12 rotating opponents figure to be. Also, past performance is no guarantee of future results, so while the formula may work, as of now, in the eyes of the SEC office, how often are they going to adjust this? But, that's the path they have started down, and unless they are simply going to do a complete makeover, it seems likely that we will continue to see the permanent opponents for a 3/6 set up be pretty much what was leaked months ago.
