Do you go to the games to talk about politics or watch a football game? If you go to discuss politics, you are an idiot.
Academically Texas A&M belongs in the Big 10 where they have really great universities. The SEC is a glorified group of jr. colleges except for A&M Vanderbilt and Florida.

Academic rankings are biased at best, flat out stupid at worst. The point about A&M being more aligned with the Big 10 than the SEC is completely valid. A more reliable measuring stick of academic excellence is the invitation only Association of American Universities of which there are only 67 US universities included. All Big 10 schools are members except Nebraska, which voluntarily withdrew. Of the SEC schools, only A&M, Florida, and Vanderbilt are members (no, UGA is not a member). The AAU is the gold standard for academic excellence in the US and Canada (there are two Canadian universities
UGA RANKS 231. TEXAS A&M IS IN THE TOP 10 ACADEMICALLY. UGA IS MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN JUNIOR COLLEGE ASSOCIATION. ONLY FLORIDA , VANDERBILT , AND TEXAS A&M BELONG TOTHE AMERICAN ASSOCIATIN OF UNIVERSITIES. (67 ALL TOGETHER)NBMaroon said:AG81 said:BQAg84 said:UGA ranks higher than A&M. Michigan isn't even the greatest team ever in the Big10. And when we are talking that area geographically, might as well throw in Notre Dame. I saw that 6 schools recently have been invited to join the AAU. Those include Notre Dame, so that mean the Irish are now Big 10 ready. Other new members include South Florida, Miami and Arizona State.NBMaroon said:UGA RANKS 231. TEXAS A&M IS IN THE TOP 10 ACADEMICALLY. UGA IS MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN JUNIOR COLLEGE ASSOCIATION. Why on earth would anyone care about the B10 adding teams from the PAC? Sankey has stated plainly that the SEC is not interested in adding teams not in the SEC geographic footprint. I agree with him.
There are only a couple candidates to join the SEC and they are all in the ACC. These teams have a massive obstacle with their grant of rights to the conference. People are furious that we are adding Horn at zero cost but apparently seem to think we should subsidize the hundreds of millions of dollars that would be required to add teams from the ACC just to somehow spite Florida and SCAR.
Hush. Don't give the sips any ideas. College Presidents like a steady flow of cash, and want no part of relegation. Even Alabama can remember the dark years of the Shula era.SinKiller said:

It's a 5 hour flight from ATL to Seattle. I don't care how pretty it is in Washington. That is too far for a conference game, especially in Olympic sports.rootube said:

Do they currently have adequate parking for the Autzen Stadium and Knight Arena? They both look beautiful on TV. How are winters in Eugene? I know summers are great.Tree Hugger said:
I just wonder about stadium size and if that would be a factor. I live half a mile from Autzen Stadium and it only holds around 55K. If they went to the B1G would they expand? The City of Eugene just did a land swap with UO for the purposes of improving the practice facilities but there isn't really room for additional parking unless they relocate PK Park (baseball) or take over adjacent city park lands. All the rest around it is privately owned.
On a side note, when we went to the UO/Utah game last year, our realtor (who gave us a couple of his tickets) asked what the main difference was between a game at Autzen and a game at Kyle Field. I told him that both had great fan involvement, but the "bits" they do at Autzen make it fun, like a minor league baseball game. The biggest difference though is the size, when I told him that Autzen was much smaller he was almost offended. Apparently he has never been to a 100K+ seat SEC or B1G stadium. We did agree that if UO ever plays at Kyle Field that we would both go.
Parking depends upon how you look at it. Knight Arena is actually on campus and there is generally sufficient parking around, but I have only been to one basketball game and I parked at my wife's office adjacent to the University District and walked over.McInnis80 said:Do they currently have adequate parking for the Autzen Stadium and Knight Arena? I know air service has improved to Eugene as people visiting the coast are looking to avoid PDX, but it would be a long flight to the Midwest. Maybe Uncle Phil will gift them Puddles 1 to help with travel.

I wish everybody would just agree to the superconference format, crappy as it will be, and get the draft going between whomever the conferences will end up being so we can just get it all over and done.
In a handful of years, you'll see the superconferences start to break up because the inevitable will be that there will be 50% of the schools that will never have a real shot at equity in anything and will want to quit being the whipping boy and do their own thing. Kind of like tectonic plates, the changes will never last all that long in the grand scheme of things.
A bonus is that if there are 4 superconferences, which there will likely be, we can go back to the 4 team "playoff" that everybody jerks it to so bad.
