From TexAgs Sponsor, ProtectionLiNK:

As an Aggie, wearing the iconic Aggie Ring is a symbol of pride and accomplishment. As the most visible sign of the Aggie Network, the ring is a tangible symbol of students' hard work, commitment and dedication to the university. The Aggie Ring also serves as a lifelong connection to the Aggie community and an instant bond with other Aggies.

I

Last Thursday, I was sitting at a bar in the Denver International Airport, passing the hour before my flight to Atlanta. An older gentleman, about 30 years my senior, sat down a couple seats away. A few minutes passed and I noticed the man staring intently at my hand. I looked down and realized what had caught his attention my Aggie ring.

"Is that an Aggie ring?" he asked excitedly.

I smiled and nodded, feeling a sense of acknowledgement grow within me. "Yes, it is! Class of '17"

Shifting seats to move closer, the man introduced himself as a fellow Aggie, class of '84. We spoke the next 20 minutes about life and work, mentioning how the Aggie network actually brought me to my current role with ProtectionLiNK. It was amazing how quickly a bond formed between us, as he shared a similar experience about landing a job out of college due to the Aggie connection. As I packed up to depart for my flight, the man gave me a hearty "Gig 'em!" and we parted ways, knowing that we had just made a new Aggie friend.

Reflecting on the chance encounter later, I couldn't help but be amazed at the thought of how easily Aggies can recognize each other and connect. Outside of Texas, my ring has been noticed whether I've traveled throughout the country or across the globe. It's a testament to the strong sense of community that exists within the Aggie family, offering opportunities for mentorship, networking, and professional development. The Aggie ring is a testament to the enduring legacy and tradition of Texas A&M.

That's why ProtectionLiNK is proud to be fully Aggie founded, owned and operated! Our line of products not only are 40% cheaper than our competitors, but with better coverage and service. Love the Aggie hookup, I once got an upgrade on my flight home from Qatar because I was wearing my ring while checking on my flight. I started talking with the gate attendant and he had friends who went to our school in Qatar, bumped to business class due to an open seat!

Downtown Seattle. Having lunch with my client. Guy eating next to us asked what class I was. Spoke for about 10 minutes. Outside the restaurant my client asked if I knew him. Nope. Then had to explain the Aggie Ring and Aggie Network. He was amazed.

While in Jackson Hole I was asked about my ring. Guy asking was wearing a Citadel Ring. Very similar.

Standing in a chow line in our base camp at An Khe Vietnam, 1966, the guy standing next to me whipped out to me, "Bill Becker" class of..." (I forget what year).I returned the favor. We chatted. I went back to where some other troops had noticed the interaction. They asked me--"what were you talking to General Becker about"? I said, "oh, you mean Bill"? Here I was, in the boonies with the 1st Cav, with General Becker whipping out to me, dropping handles with me.!

Footnote: After I returned to the U.S. I was at A&M to watch Final Review,; Gen. Becker being the reviewing Officer for Final Review. I caught up with him on the steps to the M.S.C and tapped him on the shoulder and refreshed the memory of our meeting in Vietnam. Gig Em Ags.

A hotel restaurant in San Juan, PR, in 1996. I had just spent most of the past day listening to two LSU tigers talking about how awesome they were and how Aggies weren't that special.

During breakfast, and Aggie class of 41 or 42 walked over and introduced himself. It was his first time back in PR since enlisting in the Army Air Corps so he brought his wife to show her the sights. He invited me over to meet her, and they insisted I have breakfast with them and talk about A&M, PR, my work, etc.

After 30 mins or so, I needed to go and get ready to go to the job site. The tigers asked if I'd set that up and met them the night before. I convinced them it was just an Aggie ring deal and happens sometimes. They admitted that connection is different and LSU grads don't have it unless they're drunk on a Saturday in the Fall

I was in Scotland on a golf trip. There's a famous bar/restaurant/hotel in St Andrews called The Dunvegan. At the time it was owned by an Aggie and his Scottish wife. My group and I were sitting in the bar drinking beer. I had my right hand wrapped around my pint glass, with my Ring on of course. A lady walked by the table and stopped and said (in her charming Scottish accent) "Oh, you're an Aggie!" I said " I sure am". She said "my husband's an Aggie too", and I knew right away who she was.

She said she would have her husband come out and visit with us, which he did. But before he came out, what comes on the bar's sound system but The Spirit of Aggieland followed by the War Hymn. A great memory, all because of my Aggie Ring.
