NCAA changing the rules so the clock continues to run after a first down. Curious how this will impact our offense if at all, and the rest of CFB. Personally I hate the change. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
It sounds like clock stoppage will still happen under 2 minutes in each half.

Football is an athletic activity. Except after first down?!?

Let's be honest. It is broke if fans don't want to come on game day and game length is the cause. Or rather it will go broke if that trend continues. Small, simple adjustment.

Every third or so first down is going to stop due to a commercial break anyways, so may not be that big of a deal.

The "length of games" argument is ridiculous. The length of games is so long because of advertising and tv timeouts. They are going to shorten the game and add MORE tv timeouts, the overall product will remain the same length of time. This is plain ridiculous

Less game for my money and investment in time watching/following. More time for ads and commercials all day long I suppose.

They want to have the same amount of commercials and less game play.

Shorten games.

seems like this could really benefit teams that play slow methodical football. maybe jimbo should keep calling plays. i kid.

You can save a LOT more time and have a better game with more football if you do THIS:

Put a 60-90 second clock on all football replays. if you cant tell in a minute and a half whether a call was right or wrong, then let the play stand and move on.

We haven't won a NC since this rule was implemented in '68 so I'm glad we're going back to the old way

A lot less comebacks with this and coaches will have to be smarter with timeouts.

That timeout situation could be a problem.

I don't see a problem.

I'd go with 30 seconds. If you can not definitively call it in 30 seconds, play stands as called. Move along.

I don't have a problem with non-ambiguous rule changes since they apply equally. Those BS pass interference rules on the other hand...

We already pay player and have unlimited free agency. Why not add one more thing to make it less like college football.

They have to find a way to get the games back to a reasonable duration. I would rather they cut back on the commercial breaks. We don't need commercials after TD, PAT and KO. I say limit all commercial breaks to between quarters and at halftime. I have not issue with this change. But they have to get control of the actual time spent away from the game to address the overall duration.

Jimbo's offense was 13th in the SEC last year at less than 23 points ppg.

I'm confident with the shortened clock, we'll be able to maintain that standard.

"The clock will continue to stop during the final two minutes of each half, maintaining at least part of a rule that long helped differentiate college football from the NFL." - ESPN

I think Jimbo could set records for fewest offensive plays per game next year. Certainly so if he were the OC/playcaller still.

The rule I'd like to see change is if a player goes down an opposing team player must touch him or can get back up and run.

Would make interceptions much more interesting.

The rule I'd like to see is if you cramp up and require to be taken off the field you have to sit out a minimum of 4 downs.

And all they will do now, is add mire advertising and the games will be the same length. TV has built and ruined sports.

This is where soccer has it right. You get half a match w/o 20 commercial breaks and everybody still gets rich.

I only watch futbol during the Olympics and the World Cup so I'm no euro ball chomper, but I'm baffled when I compare our experience to theirs every 2 years.

Rule changes almost always accomplish one of two things: make football softer, or give us less football.

Not a fan.

Let's say that team gets a first down on a 70 yard pass or run. If the clock does not stop, how can the team possibly get to the first down marker, huddle, get in position and snap the ball without high risk of a botched play or a delay of game play penalty? Seems to me that the official should by rule or judgment stop the clock at the end of the play that got the first down. Is there a rule covering such instances that do happen? And at what distance; 20 yards, 25 yards or more?

To be clear: you know the NFL keeps the clock running and many college athletes desire to play in the NFL???

The play clock starts immediately regardless of how far the completion is. 40 seconds. That is not changing. It is simply that the game clock won't stop.

This saves a marginal amount of time. Many of those clock stoppages were less than 5 seconds, 2 or 3 the norm.

Just shorten halftime to 13 minutes like the NFL. Let the band march beforehand.
