We played twice as many back then too and the same amount of DL

What a game! The Ags were too big, too fast and too angry for byu to stand a chance.
The byu team who a-holes all week saying they deserved to play a better team than the third place team in the SWC. The team had a huge chip on their shoulder and RC stepped on the gas and never let up.
I loved seeing LaVelle Edwards ticked off and pouting about us running up the score- the same coach who made a living running up the score on teams in his weak arse conference.

Can you believe my uncle got married during this game? This is a family with 14 degrees from A&M. I'm the smartest of the group but I didn't go to A&M. JK obviously I'm the dumbest.

It used to be A LOT tougher to play football.

I didn't see any roughing the passer!!!

I really only saw one play that would've been flagged for leading with the crown. Sound form tackling generally doesn't lead to a flag.

Yeah, a lot of the driving the QB into the ground would be roughing the passer today. Hit may be OK today, but not the follow through.

That doesn't happen today because quarterbacks are allowed to throw the ball away these days. One of numerous changes to benefit the passing game, which is why you'll never see defensive play like that again.

I don't see a single tackle in that video that would get a flag today. The real eye opener in this video is the size and speed of those guys. The Aggies were in a completely different league than BYU. In BYU's defense almost every team in CFB was overmatched compared to those guys.

How the heck did that team finish 3rd in the SWC? I watched that game being disappointed when detmer wasn't pressured or hit. Imagine escaping that dl then coryatt sneaking in from downfield and you're looking right into his eyes. Poor guy.

That's when football as football. We will only see games like that on YouTube.

Most of the names on defense would be names few Aggies would even remember. Perhaps two or three LBs and a couple DBs would be. I can't remember how well our recruiting classes were back then, as I recall the recruiting ratings and such had not started yet.

I grin when we have a great defensive effort and afterwards some will ask if the Wrecking Crew is back. The answer is no.

You must not watch a lot of football these days.

If a hit simply looks too hard, it gets a flag. If an offensive player lowers their head into the defensive player, the defensive player gets a flag. 95% or better of the targeting calls shoudln't get a flag at all, but they look bad initially because they were hard hits.

:42 no helmet to helmet contact at all
1:52 no helmet to helmet contact at all
2:15 is the only one with any helmet contact but not crown of the helmet and no launch

Still see a lot of good form tackles and zero crack backs, spearing or leading with the head

There weren't any. At least, not in that video. Detmer was hit very hard a couple of times (obviously), but most of the hits were when he still had the ball. A Roughing foul wouldn't apply there as he wasn't, by rule, a passer. There was one play where he threw back toward the middle of the field and was crushed, but under the rule now, it wasn't obvious that the pass had been thrown (he was out of the pocket, hadn't set himself, was being chased, etc.) and a foul shouldn't be called there. It was, again, a hard tackle.

There was a play on there that looked like a POSSIBLE missed facemask foul. I say possible because it wasn't clear. Remember that there used to be a 5 yard facemask foul for grasping but not twisting the fm. I think that rule was in place in 1990; I don't recall for sure. It was gone by around 2008-9 time frame.

He didn't even want to shake RC's hand after the game. There was a video played before the broadcast where Ty said "they can't stop me/us". My dad, God rest his soul, loomed at me and said, "What an arrogant ass."

I heard Toledo was motivated by Lavell Edwards running it up on him when he was at Pacific. Edwards didn't seem to mind huge blowouts when he was on the winning side.

On another note, if Robert Wilson is the lead blocker, you might as well let em go on through. He just blows guys up that get in the way.

Edwards was notorious for running up the score back in the old WAC. My neighbor, nice guy who graduated from BYU, told his son that A&M was a bunch of cheaters etc. I thought wow, seriously? Good grief. Like mentioned, he liked kicking other ass but didn't like it happening to them.
