Verbal to the buckeyes?!? In an area of critical need we couldn't land this kid? Did we ever have a legitimate shot at swaying him to the good guys??
Don't even try and pretend we're not getting worked in recruiting.Madmarttigan said:
I like how people think we could seriously compete with and offer from Ohio State, Alabama, or Georgia.
There isn't a program in the state worth staying over those schools.
We recruited the 15th ranked class, including 9th in average stars coming off back to back 8-4 and 5-7 seasons in years 4/54 said:
I'm convinced someone on staff is pissing off high school coaches or something.
It's getting ridiculous
We weren't #2 either. Ou was higher on his list, for one.Viper16 said:
Let's see.....us, or Ohio State?
Hmmmm!
Okay? Tyanthony and Xavier Atkins are around 91. Not quite as high as Payton Pierce, but I'm not going to get upset with landing a couple 91 four star linebackers. That would be a good thing. What did I say that is wrong, and why did it need correction? Everyone knows there is a wide range of 4 stars. But we aren't going to land 25 97 ranked players in this class. But if you can load up with a lot of 90, 91, 92 types and grab a few 94-97 guys? That adds up.Aggie1188 said:
Half the guys you're calling 4-stars are rated like 89 or 90… even someone rated 97 is a 4-star, so there are significant levels & drop-offs to this.

Jimbos recruiting magic is gone, and we've blown whatever NIL momentum we had by being the first to go big. If we don't win big this year we are headed into the downward spiral and another decade of mediocre results while we decide how to fire Jimbo and roll the dice on another new coach.
Blame fans for toxicity. It ran Bear Bryant off, too…as well as Bellard. And Stallings thought he wasn't in his coaching prime yet.WC94 said:
At what point to we stop blaming coaches and start blaming higher-ups? If **** rolls down hill, blame should roll up.

We will land some guys with offers from those schools. I never once thought Payton Pierce was even a slight chance.
That said, you have about 5-6 really, really good LBers in state this year. You better find a way to get at least 2 of them. Xavier Atkins, Tyanthony Smith, Justin Williams, Payton Pierce, Davhon Keys, and Maurice Williams all look good. One of the deeper years for in state linebackers in a while, so agai better find a way to get two of them
LSU has 3 of them committed, but I think we flip one, and have a good chance with Tyanthony Smith as well. So there is a good chance we grab two four star linebackers in state. Need to make it happen. Justin williams will be the slugfest.
Exactly. If you choose any of those three schools, there is probably a 90% (or greater) of getting to play in the national championship game at least once in the four or five years you will be in college. Come here, and the chance to do so approaches zero. If you get an offer from those three you take it.Madmarttigan said:

Totally agree. We are doing well for the results on the field. We need to win big this year.beerad12man said:We recruited the 15th ranked class, including 9th in average stars coming off back to back 8-4 and 5-7 seasons in years 4/54 said:

It's about on field results at this point. Why would you expect us to recruit better than that coming off those seasons in years 4 and 5?
As is, I think we are set up pretty decent in this class, even though the commitments aren't falling in. But.......
We need to win. If we do, we will close very strong and finish easily with a top 10 class, maybe even borderline top 5. If we do not win this year, fisher won't get it done anyways. All up to him.

My wife coached at Lovejoy for 6 years. There is nobody pushing A&M. Parents seem to push their kids out of state there
