It could happen. It could really, really happen.

Here me out.
2020: 8-1. Only loss was @ #2 Alabama who went 13-0 and won the NC.
We get Bama and Auburn at home. We play @Miami, @Tenn, and @LSU... so, it will be challenging.
We have a tremendous amount of experience coming back.
Our OLine will return Foster, Ogunbiyi, and Spasojevic-Moko, giving us all 6 (OL+TE). Max Wright is returning. We will start the season (if healthy) with players in their 19th yrs of college. Last year we were at 12 and they started coming together by the end of the season.
But the Defense will be phenomenal.
DL: So, Sr, Jr, RS Jr
LB: Sr, RS Jr
DB: Jr, Sr, Jr, Sr/Tr, So
Better OL means longer/sustained drives, which means increased TOP, which reduces the time the Defense is on the field. It also means more points on O.
Experienced depth means more substitutions, which results in fresher players at the end of the game and season.
We will beat 5 Top5 teams and go undefeated and win the SEC and Natty.
Flame away.

This year is our last realistic year to do anything.
Our recruiting is going down the toilet and it's going to start catching up to us starting next year.
As for recruiting? It clearly took a step back, but it is not "down the toilet". We finished 9th last year in average stars, we just didn't take enough players and missed out on some depth at LB, WR, and OT. We out-recruited our play on the field better than every school in the country. Now, we need a boost to realistically compete with Georgia/Bama. 9th in average stars doesn't exactly scream overtaking those two. But we are not "down the toilet". There's a wide range in between
So yes, if we go 7-5 this year, it's only going to get tougher to recruit at elite levels. So we absolutely need to win some games this year to boost recruiting. But the 2024 roster will be immensely talented regardless. We have a 2 year window to get our s*** together, and get a boost in recruiting again.

one thing folks forget about the 2020 season...
A&M was outstanding at the LB position thanks to the great play of Buddy Johnson.
it's important to have more than just "guys" or average players at the LB spot
In 2020, our TOP was 34:49. We had 678 plays v opponents 593 in 10 games.
That's 68 ppg v 59 ppg
In 2022, our TOP was 27:52. We had 756 plays v opponents 847 plays in 12 games.
That's 63 ppg v 71 ppg
If our D in 2022 was only on the field for 25:11, played 59 ppg, and 2 less games... they'd likely look better.
It would be reasonable to say, if Foster alone had not had mono, we'd have extended a few series and improved our TOP changing the outcome of many games. But, not only did we lose Foster, we lost our LG and LT.
It is the reason for my optimism. If our OLine can remain healthy it will improve all aspects of the team.
7 fewer minutes of our Defense on the field. PER GAME!
From the Video I saw of Petrino's offenses, he works to take pressure off of the O-Line with quick passes.Meanmachine said:
If Petrino calls plays 10-2
If Jimbo takes over play calling 7-5
We will be better but Jimbo's stubbornness and micro managing is a huge problem.
Hmm are you saying Petrino is the 2nd coming of Garrett Riley? 2022 Riley became TCU's OC. 2021 was Meacham, you know the guy that played A&M to get the huge pay raise.Detmersdislocatedshoulder said:
if tcu can go from 5-7 to playing for a natty why not us.
we have a very talented roster just need a break on the injury bug for a season.

I dont know how good LSU will be, but I think there is a decent chance that we go to Baton Rouge at 11-0

It's amazing how much optimism some of you guys have year after year. You get burnt, call out "there's always next year!", then proceed to hypothesis on stuff that ends up having no meaning at all during the season.DallasAg 94 said:
