A&M football will be better in 2023 than we were in 2020.

BAS is the norm. We went 2012 and 2020 without it.

That is all since 2000. Something about continuing to do the same expecting different results.

If you are truly drinking the koolaide at this point, that's a you problem.

one thing folks forget about the 2020 season...

A&M was outstanding at the LB position thanks to the great play of Buddy Johnson.

it's important to have more than just "guys" or average players at the LB spot

Realistically, I am expecting a floor of 6-6 and a ceiling of 9-3 with 8-4 being our most likely regular season finish. Assuming we go 6-1 at home with only a loss to Alabama, the games away from Kyle Field will shape our season: @ Miami, vs Arkansas at Jerry World, @ Tennessee, @ Ole Miss, and @ LSU. I think we will beat Miami and Arkansas.

The road games have been a problem for us. Since a 35-14 rout at Missouri on 10/16/21, we have lost 6 consecutive true road games. Hopefully, we can snap that losing streak at Miami in Week 2. Also, we have not beaten an SEC West team on the road since a 31-20 win at Auburn on 12/5/20. I think Ole Miss will be the most winnable of our 3 true SEC road games. Tennessee will be our toughest road game because we will be drained from playing Alabama at home on 10/7, and Tennessee will be coming off a bye week.

Here me out.

2020: 8-1. Only loss was @ #2 Alabama who went 13-0 and won the NC.

We get Bama and Auburn at home. We play @Miami, @Tenn, and @LSU... so, it will be challenging.

We have a tremendous amount of experience coming back.

Our OLine will return Foster, Ogunbiyi, and Spasojevic-Moko, giving us all 6 (OL+TE). Max Wright is returning. We will start the season (if healthy) with players in their 19th yrs of college. Last year we were at 12 and they started coming together by the end of the season.

But the Defense will be phenomenal.
DL: So, Sr, Jr, RS Jr
LB: Sr, RS Jr
DB: Jr, Sr, Jr, Sr/Tr, So

Better OL means longer/sustained drives, which means increased TOP, which reduces the time the Defense is on the field. It also means more points on O.

Experienced depth means more substitutions, which results in fresher players at the end of the game and season.

We will beat 5 Top5 teams and go undefeated and win the SEC and Natty.

Flame away.

We would be phenomenal but for having so many Aggie players hit the portal. We have something like 10 open scholarships left unfilled.

I fear we lack the depth needed to win. That's on Jimbo.

Didn't our 2020 OL average something like 25-30 starts going into the season? Our line should be improved this year and I think they are a higher potential group than 2020 but that level of experience on the offensive line was huge. I think 2023 could be big. Not doubting that.

ET: Looked it up. If I have it right our starting line that year was :
Carson Green - Sr 3L
Kenyon Green - So 1L
Dan Moore - Sr 3L
Jared Hcker - Sr 3L
Ryan McCollum - Sr 3L

I mean, I sure hope so. This season is going to come down to O-Line, O-Line, and O-line.

Look at our last 4 years: when we can keep the QB upright and pocket relatively clean we're pretty solid and can hang with just about anyone (2020 season, 2021 Bama, 2022 LSU), even with different levels of QB play and play styles.

Coming into this year we can feel really confident in our pass catchers and optimistic in what we saw from our likely starting QB last year. RB is an unproven position room, but let's be honest if you've got 4/5* guys, it's not hard to generate some yardage behind decent running lanes… which means it will ALL come down to the OL. Let Weigman make his reads, and hit our blocks at a reasonable rate in this offense and we'll move the ball.

Don't you dare get my hopes up, Dallas! Awesome deep dive. Pretty encouraging if we stay help! I definitely think this line has a very high ceiling and there are lots of dudes that can contribute. If they gel, it could be a dang good year.

If I had to guess how good the 2023 team would do........I would say 8-5.

If we had had any semblance of offense last year, we'd have beaten Alabama, and gone 8-4 minimum.

We'll be markedly better than last year.

I agree with you

Several parallels between maturity progression between the 2012 team and this one (especially on offensive line)

If Petrino calls plays 10-2
If Jimbo takes over play calling 7-5
We will be better but Jimbo's stubbornness and micro managing is a huge problem.

This year is our last realistic year to do anything.

Our recruiting is going down the toilet and it's going to start catching up to us starting next year.
Unless we have a ton of attrition, 2024 will be an even more realistic year to do something. It's most definitely better on paper.

As for recruiting? It clearly took a step back, but it is not "down the toilet". We finished 9th last year in average stars, we just didn't take enough players and missed out on some depth at LB, WR, and OT. We out-recruited our play on the field better than every school in the country. Now, we need a boost to realistically compete with Georgia/Bama. 9th in average stars doesn't exactly scream overtaking those two. But we are not "down the toilet". There's a wide range in between

So yes, if we go 7-5 this year, it's only going to get tougher to recruit at elite levels. So we absolutely need to win some games this year to boost recruiting. But the 2024 roster will be immensely talented regardless. We have a 2 year window to get our s*** together, and get a boost in recruiting again.

Awesome!

Wait til next year after this year!

None of us really know. I expect it to be a
Lot better than 2022 but that's a low bar. I have pretty much resigned myself to the idea that we'll never win a National championship in my lifetime. If I get surprised to the positive side then nothing

It was also only 10 games.

In 2020, our TOP was 34:49. We had 678 plays v opponents 593 in 10 games.
That's 68 ppg v 59 ppg

In 2022, our TOP was 27:52. We had 756 plays v opponents 847 plays in 12 games.
That's 63 ppg v 71 ppg

If our D in 2022 was only on the field for 25:11, played 59 ppg, and 2 less games... they'd likely look better.

It would be reasonable to say, if Foster alone had not had mono, we'd have extended a few series and improved our TOP changing the outcome of many games. But, not only did we lose Foster, we lost our LG and LT.

It is the reason for my optimism. If our OLine can remain healthy it will improve all aspects of the team.

7 fewer minutes of our Defense on the field. PER GAME!
This is a 2 Edged Sword.

Yea, the Defense has to make stops, BUT if the Offense is 3 & OUT it doesn't matter. Honestly you need contributions by both to swap that TOP number.

From the Video I saw of Petrino's offenses, he works to take pressure off of the O-Line with quick passes.

There is NO WAY IN HELL that doesn't become a HUGE Asset. Quick reads, being ahead of the chains, puts the defense on their heels.

This is the year

King could not have worked in this offense

Quick release and quick plays are the key this year

Hmm are you saying Petrino is the 2nd coming of Garrett Riley? 2022 Riley became TCU's OC. 2021 was Meacham, you know the guy that played A&M to get the huge pay raise.

We have a quarterback this year. Our offensive line will be much improved. Our defense will be awesome. Bobbi P. is the best play caller in the business. Connor will lead us to 10 victories.

If Petrino calls plays we have a much higher ceiling than if Jimbo does. It is more QB and OL friendly.

We have a lot of talent at the starting positions but are thin at many areas. Seeing as pretty much all of our OL is out this spring doesn't make me feel very good. Same at LB, WR, safety, and RB. We may have had some good recruiting classes lately but this is starting to feel like Sumlin again. Hit on positions but keep missing on ones of need like OL and LB

It's amazing how much optimism some of you guys have year after year. You get burnt, call out "there's always next year!", then proceed to hypothesis on stuff that ends up having no meaning at all during the season.

We aren't going to be good under Fisher. His skills are no more.

He's not gonna give up the OC duties because he's already got his money and as long as we have morons that pay ridiculous amounts of money for nothing, we'll have coaches that could care less.

OL is gonna suck. Max Wright is an injury machine. Defense won't stop the run.

How were we better at the end of the season? By beating the worst team in football (UMass) and an LSU team that already had the West in the bag?

Then we lose our only recruiting advantage over t.u. the next year when this *******s join the SEC.

Face it…2012 was the peak and only because we has a generational player and the best receiver in the NFL.

We can't even beat the ****ing MS schools!

You can count on 6-6 at best this season, Jimbo will continue to blame "players not executing", and we'll lose more players to the portal while replacing them with Rice walk-ons.

I gave up my season tickets because this **** show isn't worth watching.
