Oline was the most glaring issue the last 2 seasons and we return all starters. I understand they will improve but that is just a rule of thumb. Nothing about the Oline is a positive until mid season at best. Experience can be good or bad

I actually tend to think we will be a really good team this year also. Our most glaring issues last year were O-line and QB play. Sustained OL play is still going to be a question mark but it sure seems like it has to be a lot better than last year with the experience we have.

We still have to see what Weigman's ceiling will be but I think it's clear that even his floor is much better than anything we ever saw out of King. His mobility will also help with any potential OL issues we might have.

Something something about next year....

Here me out.

2020: 8-1. Only loss was @ #2 Alabama who went 13-0 and won the NC.

We get Bama and Auburn at home. We play @Miami, @Tenn, and @LSU... so, it will be challenging.

We have a tremendous amount of experience coming back.

Our OLine will return Foster, Ogunbiyi, and Spasojevic-Moko, giving us all 6 (OL+TE). Max Wright is returning. We will start the season (
if healthy) with players in their 19th yrs of college. Last year we were at 12 and they started coming together by the end of the season.

But the Defense will be phenomenal.
DL: So, Sr, Jr, RS Jr
LB: Sr, RS Jr
DB: Jr, Sr, Jr, Sr/Tr, So

Better OL means longer/sustained drives, which means increased TOP, which reduces the time the Defense is on the field. It also means more points on O.

Experienced depth means more substitutions, which results in fresher players at the end of the game and season.

We will beat 5 Top5 teams and go undefeated and win the SEC and Natty.

Flame away.

Not a guarantee, but if it happens, FIFY.

if tcu can go from 5-7 to playing for a natty why not us.

we have a very talented roster just need a break on the injury bug for a season.

This year is our last realistic year to do anything.

Our recruiting is going down the toilet and it's going to start catching up to us starting next year.

Frogs play in a garbage conference, Ags don't. Will always be a much harder row to hoe but when it clicks, the best team from the SEC wins the whole thing more often than not.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Will the Oline be NCAA quality?

Can this young team (why?) win on the road?

Will Fisher get out of Petrino's way?

Can Stregth and Conditioning do a better job of preparing thede kids?

Lots of questions....
Either I will find a way or I will make one.

Yeah, I'm not feeling it. I've fully embraced BAS. Actually, re-embraced BAS.

19th years of college!

I thought 5yrs was along time in college!!

I feel like I don't even need to look at Phil Steele magazine.
In short OP states returning starters = great team.
I have put the everything I own on we going to the MNC
This is like taking candy from a baby.

I agree this is a critical year. The window could also be open next year if we don't implode like last year and lose a lot through the portal. But we absolutely must re-establish the persona of a contender now or it will be much harder to get out of the middle of the pack in subsequent years. We have the material...it's clearly on Fisher's shoulders to get it done.

It'd be a miracle to go 9-3.

Realistically, 7-5 is most likely. Beat the three OOC spares at home, beat Auburn, SC, MSU at home, beat Arky in Arlington.

Floor is probably 5-7 again.

People said the same thing in 2020, ironically.

I am not sure if this team will be better than the 2020 team or not. It would take a lot going right for that to be the case. But it does have higher end potential.

By no means would it take a miracle to go 9-3.

I still think some of you are too focused on who we lost and ignore what is actually on campus. We have higher end talent than nearly every season I have followed in Aggieland. We do have a lot of unknowns that temper many of those expectations, though. But this team most definitely has higher potential and the ability to reach 9-3(or better) than the vast majority of past A&M teams.

Unless we have a ton of attrition, 2024 will be an even more realistic year to do something. It's most definitely better on paper.

As for recruiting? It clearly took a step back, but it is not "down the toilet". We finished 9th last year in average stars, we just didn't take enough players and missed out on some depth at LB, WR, and OT. We out-recruited our play on the field better than every school in the country. Now, we need a boost to realistically compete with Georgia/Bama. 9th in average stars doesn't exactly scream overtaking those two. But we are not "down the toilet". There's a wide range in between

So yes, if we go 7-5 this year, it's only going to get tougher to recruit at elite levels. So we absolutely need to win some games this year to boost recruiting. But the 2024 roster will be immensely talented regardless. We have a 2 year window to get our s*** together, and get a boost in recruiting again.

On paper, yes the OL is more than NCAA quality. Last year, we had 4 underclassmen(1st and 2nd year) players starting. This year, we have 0 or 1(Maybe Dewberry) and 4-5 upperclassmen. OL is the single most important position to have experience on. Last year was always a major concern even for the most optimistic. While this year still has a lot to prove, it is by no means close to the same concern as going into last season.

This isn't really a young team anymore. While there are quite a few elite sophomores, we also have a ton of guys who have played a lot of meaningful minutes and are much better suited in the trenches than before. We have 10 total upper-class OL on the roster compared to 4 total last year(2 of which were injured). We will have virtually no fish on the field short of getting hammered with injuries again, and both sides of the ball will likely have 9-10 players who have started a ton of games on the field for nearly every snap.

I am sure Fisher will be involved in the offense. I don't see this as a bad thing. Unlike many on this board, I don't think he's a bad coach. He mismanaged the roster for last year, and that has been by far his biggest set back here at A&M.

What do you mean by S&C? I am assuming you are blaming them for last year? Not the fact that we played true fish against JR/Srs?

With the lack of depth and recent recruiting misses at those positions (OL, LB, WR, and thin at S), everybody needs to limit their expectations. Also, what happens if Weigman gets injured? the last two seasons we've dealt with QB injuries and though I expect OL play to be better, it could still be below average. Too many unknowns and at this point in Jimbo's tenure we shouldn't have to be dealing with glaring depth issues at those positions. Call me a pessimist, I've just been emotionally burned way too many times by our football team.
