An article about pac 12 media rights turns into an argument over Mississippi state and Notre dame.
More of an observation on how pointless holding the Pac-12 together is as a strategy…

So the Big 12 schools are still set to make > $50 million per year after Texas and OU depart? What could possibly justify that?
People around here watch a lot of football

only unless the SEC is trying to take over the world. Without USC and UCLA, the Pac is not worth a lot. There is no way adding Oregon and Washington would bring in anything close to the share of the payout. An 8:00 SEC west game gets much of the late viewing slot. The Pac prides itself on their strength in Olympic sports. I don't see how they can fund beach volleyball, water polo, etc. with this funding cut. The Pac 12 thought China would be their ticket. They are finding out that 300 million American, 1.3 Billion Chinese and and 30 million Californians have in common. They don't care about the Pac 12.

A buddy of mine is originally from the Bay area and a sports junkie, though he's been in Texas for 25 or so years. He rarely follows college football (he went to San Jose St.). If you didn't go to USC/UCLA/Cal/Stan/etc. and aren't a football fan, I dare say you have little interest in that league if you live out there. Other leagues? Very possible due to transplants.

Obviously pro sports are a completely different issue.

If we are all being honest, the top level of CFB should be made up of programs that have stadiums with capacities of at least 65k and have fanbases that are recognizable. Some names on or not on here are probably debatable, but here's the first draft:

Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan St, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Purdue, WVU, UVa, VT, UNC, & NC St

Clemson, USCe, UGa, Florida, FSU, Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisville, Ole Miss,& LSU

Texas A&M, tu, 0U, OSU, Arky, Mizzou, Nebraska, Iowa State, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Minnesota

Kansas, Kansas State, Colorado, BYU, Utah, USC, UCLA, ASU, Arizona, Stanford, Washington, & Oregon

48 teams, 4 conferences, 2 divisions, 1 CCG (Fiesta Bowl for West, Cotton Bowl for Midwest, Orange Bowl for SE, and a game in Indianapolis for East), 2 Semifinals (Rose Bowl and Peach Bowl), and 1 Final (Sugar Bowl in a venue in the middle of the country in NO).
