How long do you want to ignore this user?
Rumors out there about him being the front runner for the DB coach. Thoughts? Had previous worked with Durkin at Ole Miss, plus he seems to be able to recruit at a high level.

Would be great pick up good recruiter and Durkin could fill in as our LB coach. Plus he knows Durkin and his system.

I looked him up, and he was formerly the Linebackers coach at Michigan before he went to do secondary at Ole Miss. So, not sure where he's intended for us, but yeah he's got a lot of big recruits. 247 shows him getting #1 overall player Rashan Gary and three other five stars....probably 35 four stars. Since he was only coaching since 2015 that's quite a lot in 7 years

money talks-especially in college football.

just making the point that ole miss by and large has had a very average to mediocre defense over the last few years and we are gobbling up their coaches like it's candy.

We're not looking for him to come and coach the defense.

No different than Lovie Smith being a great DC but a poor head coach. Some folks just can't perform with the extra responsibilities.

This

And some posters just can't seem to grasp that distinction

Failing as hc does not mean failing as dc and failing as dc does not mean failing as safeties coach

What it does mean, however is that those guys were good enough at their respective pisitions, such as safeties coach or dc, to get promoted to the next level

He was Durkin's safties coach. Since 2010 the only times Durkin hasn't been the LB coach was when he was HC and with us.

if we land him, we will have taken an sec west coach for a lateral move. Actually since he still technically had the title of co-dc a demotion. Not sure if he was being let go or not. But that's semantics considering his previous success as a position coach is all that matters. There is no other way than to spin that as extremely good/successful hire.

You guys literally listed a couple of examples of this happening in the last 20 years. Money talks? As if Georgia or bama doesn't have the money to match for a sought after defensive coach?

It was never realistic to grab a bama or Georgia positional coach. If that was your expectations, you set up your own disappointment.

I shouldn't have said "single". I set myself up to fail there.

But it's extraordinarily rare, and shouldn't have been the expectation. It's ridiculous to think it should have been. You can count on one hand the number of times it's happened, and most of the times it does, it comes with an increase in title or something happening at the old position. Ie, coley had literally just been demoted at Georgia. Nick Williams went from grad assistant to full time staffer

What title were we stripping to lure a Georgia defensive coach here? Give him co-dc, and remove it from elijah Robinson?

Coley was let go as their OC and we hired him as a TE coach. Williams was an analyst.

Coley also was Fisher's TE coach when he was FSU OC and his OC Fisher's first 2 years as HC.

I wish we'd quit hiring or trying to hire defensive coaches from Ole Miss for the simple fact that Ole Miss hasn't had a good defense in over a decade.

They have also been combating a HUNH offense that likes to go for it on 4th down in their own territory. Not saying it's the reason they have been bad but those are big disadvantages when it comes to defense!

Just so many incredibly ignorant posts

A) lane kiffen. Let's not chastise coaches who have to be opposite these types of offenses. Sumlins DCs take too much blame. Alex grinch was a hot commodity and then Lincoln Riley strikes

B) we would be hiring their co-dc for safeties coach, and his last positional coaching job was at Michigan. Is Michigan good enough for you to take coaches from?
