I'm thinking if every school had to offer the same price for the players by the way they are starred kind of like the NFL with with first round to 7 round guys then the kid would have to really pick a school he wanted to go to and not because of money. Right now it's just out of control. Giving a kid that much money out of high school is just crazy. What stops them from flaming out. The kid is set for live.
I guess I'm questioning whether it is our job (as a society) to stop someone from flaming out. Some teens have been given way too much money for a long time- whether it is actors, music artists, athletes, or entrepreneurs... Whether they flame out or capitalize on being set for life, is on them. No one is crying over rappers or child actors who squander millions of dollars and ruin their lives before they are 21, and that has been happening for a long time. Why are we now suddenly outraged that it is happening to athletes?
And if you think that all the schools would play by the rules, and offer the same amount of money... I'm sorry but that isn't a reality for 2 reasons -
#1 - It isn't the schools technically offering the money. They can't because it isn't pay-for-play. These are NIL endorsement deals with 3rd parties. So... no way to regulate that through a cap, because this is a free market and we opened the door to student-athletes being able to pursue and trade in that free market (trading their NIL for $).
#2 - All schools essentially had that same restriction before NIL - they could offer 0$. Everyone was supposed to be the same and on equal footing. We all know that isn't true, and tons of cash flowed in all sorts of "creative" ways. Not much has changed now, and that is still happening. Because billions of dollars are on the line, people will always find a way to push the lines, gain an advantage, or flat out cheat.
