Dude is addicted to the game
I may look different, but the opportunity should look familiar! Think Astros promotion at @GFToday, with the Frogs on Monday Night. Here's your chance to reward yourself with a great night's sleep, and it could be on us! Go Frogs!!

Isn't it just insurance on whatever offer he makes to customers if TCU wins?
Yes. This is just a hedge against his "Free furniture if X team wins!" promotions.mos03c said:

That was 2001 and I was at the game.20ag07 said:
And the last time we played TCU was in the GalleryFurniture.com bowl.

The media play it up like some huge gamble, though lol

Ok, just thinking through the numbers here…
If he bets 3 million and loses, the makeup is all of the furniture sales he made during the promotion? Are the normal prices jacked up during the promotion to at least offset the initial $3 mill bet?
How much, realistically, does a promotion like this bring in, business wise?
But if he wins, the casinos owe him like $15 mill, but he has to refund all the furniture sales?
Still seems kinda risky to me.

The economics of McIngvale's strategy has mostly paid off. During his March Madness promotion he bet a total of $9.86 million across four bets and won $13.5 million. (Mack's bets were a $1 million futures bet on the East bracket to win $1.7 million, the only bet he lost, then $2.25 million on Kansas at +190 to win $6.5 million; $3.31 million on Kansas at +190 to win $6.3 million; and $3.3 million on Kansas at 200 to win $1.7 million.) Gallery sold a total of $12.9 million worth of furniture during the promotion, so once he refunds all of his customers, which he will do on April 24 during a big party in his store, he'll have more than a $500,000 profit.
That was the biggest question for me- how much a promotion like this brings in. Thanks.20ag07 said:

It's all marketing.
I only went in GF one time in my life and sure enough, he was hauling mattresses with the help of some younger guys. This was 20+ years ago but he was an active owner in that business and not resting on his laurels.dreyOO said:
No kidding. I always saw Mack on tv, but when I strolled through Gallery Furniture and realized the old, tired man grumbling into the PA was actually him, I was shocked. Dude looked dead tired but was just grinding away.
That was like 15 years ago. Amazing endurance and drive.
I assume you are saying 2 different thigs here. He is not taking the points on this illustration.TAMU74 said:
Smart businessman.
Take the points to the bank.
Someone is missing out on the reason why he does this as stated above.txaggieacct85 said:
