The guy has a LONGGGG track record of success and half of the Zoo is over here complaining like we hired a serial killer to be the OC.

What are we complaining about? That he's a rich guy that had a mistress? It's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

He will help our offense tremendously. Jimbo hired the right guy.

Lolz. So did John Chavis. So did Jake Spavital. So did Jimbo Fisher.

One of the critiques against Jimbo was that whoever he hires as OC will be a lesser coach or "yes man" and that Jimbo would effectively re-absorb the play calling from the 'yes man'. I think Petrino mitigates that concern because he's a mature coach and will demand a certain about of deference from Jimbo.

I think Petrino will be a short-term hire for us. I think he will be successful. If he's successful, he will end up as a HC somewhere else in short order. Sadly, successful programs have this problem.
Agree that Petrino will NOT be a yes man. The concerns over Jimbo just still owning the offense are likely resolved by hiring Petrino. However, he is an a-hole. Jimbo is stubborn and I expect will have a very difficult time staying completely out of the offense unless everything is going perfect. I expect Jimbo and Petrino to butt heads and it could lead to a toxic environment.

Between the character issues (which includes the lying and attempted cover-up in addition to just having an affair) and the potential issues between Jimbo and Petrino, I don't understand this hire. He hasn't had the level of success to justify the risk or the poor optics. I'm amazed Jimbo wanted him. Hopefully this hire wasn't pushed on him by others. It isn't like Petrino was in high demand. I would rather have had a young up-and-coming OC (w/ the hope Jimbo stayed out of his way).

Before this was announced and when the interviewing of Petrino became known, it seemed like most were against this hire. Interesting to see if people's minds change now that he has actually been given the job. I don't like the hire. However, I do think there is a chance the offense looks significantly better. Jimbo certainly wasn't cutting it. That said, I expect this doesn't end well due to the personalities involved.

He hasn't had a dynamite offense in 5 or 6 years and offenses have changed a ton in that time, so the concern that the game has passed him by is reasonable. That said, it could easily just be a talent thing.

My prediction is we'll show dramatic improvement on offense this year and in early August 2024, petrino bolts for an OC job in the NFL.

The hire is good because it frees up Jimbo to be a head coach and focus more on recruiting and other activities that would take up his time from offensive game planning. He will of course still be involved but he said that Petrino will be the one calling the plays so we should gain 20 yards per game right there with 4 fewer delay of game penalties!

Petrino is an opportunist. He probably is a jackass like a lot of college coaches behave. Everywhere he has been he has always been looking for his next opportunity. I'm sure he's doing that here and is looking to leave after a year or two in order to get an FBS head coaching job which is why he left SE Missouri State to take the UNLV offensive coordinator position in order to get back into the FBS. But if he fires up our offense and makes it elite and leaves after two years for an FBS head coaching job then that will have been a home run hire. He's also 61 so he doesn't have much time left if he is still looking at moving up so he probably has only one more move left.

I think hiring a young, hungry, talented OC is overrated. Jimbo, Durkin & Petrino have a combined nearly 100 years coaching experience at the college level. This combination is going to be a winner. We will be now playing every game going forward just like our last game against LSU !

It might be hard to blend two big egos. However, Petrino has to know who he works for. This is a big opportunity for him too. He will be in the spotlight and if he succeeds he will be a hot commmodity as a HC again. If he's smart and plays it right, he can be back on the HC coach circuit in a major conference.

Your last point about "most were against this hire" is a dubious statement likely based on TexAgs Zoo sentiments. The number of trolls and sock puppet accounts amplify the number and depth of complaints about the most trivial things. The Zoo can frequently be a toxic ecosystem of the dumbest takes ever. Not always...but frequently.

It's an embarrassing hire on several levels- aside from his history of scumbaggery and the wealth of hilariously compromising images online from the guy's past, BP wasn't not Jimbo's first (or even second) choice.
Everyone seems to ballyhoo his "offensive genius" but his last season as coach showed a losing record (with a very average offense) in the Missouri Valley Conference.

I guess I'm optimistic in the rationale that Jimbo's offense can't get any worse, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking this hire was anything great.

Jimbo has hitched his aggie future to Petrino. 2 years from now the Jimbo buyout talk on here will be the main topic.
I dont think Jimbo cares who he has hitched his future to. He gets paid no matter what. And gets paid a lot.

Appears to be the PERFECT hire. If BP puts out a great offense, Aggies will be happy. If BP puts out a crappy offense, Aggies will be happy because Jimbo is toast.
