Last time I saw this was at a Westlake / Consol game when Nick Foles was the Westlake QB and his OL dropped like a sack of rocks on the sideline. Same situation, AED brought out, ambulance on field, lots of people thinking the kid was dead, game called, crowd walked to their cars without saying a word.

The kid lived. Hoping for the same result.
Agree.

I was at that game.
The kid that collapsed was a highly recruited player that had committed to the horns. 1st name was Matt if I remember correctly.
Westlake had just tied the game at 14 & before they kicked off, I noticed a disturbance on their sidelines.
Saw someone using a defibrillator (Westlakes placekicker was a cardiologist) & I immediately went down on my knees in prayer. Ambulance took him away about 10-15 minutes later. Stadium was eerily quiet. The game was called 20-30 minutes later.

Kid went on to get his degree @ Texas & is now a heart surgeon himself if my memory is correct.

I'm old enough to remember Lions WR Chuck Hughes dying on the field back in the early 70's not long after being clobbered after catching a pass vs the Bears.

Anyone else remember that incident?

Justin Tucker was the Westlake kicker and he is still a kicker in the NFL. His father is a cardiologist.

Dr. Paul tucker was in the stands and most likely saved that player. Dr. Tucker is my cardiologist and he is an excellent doctor and fortunate he was at the game watching his son Justin. Pretty sure this is the same game.
I was at the game and I thought Dr. Red Duke also went down on the field to help. But I'm not 100% positive.

Prayer's sent.

I would love to see one of these announcers calling for prayers actually pray on air. How powerful would that be?

Replied to the wrong comment. This is referring to the people already speculating on the vaccine causing his episode.

I knew that would start happening. Ridiculous!

Now is not the time, but it's not ridiculous.

Prayers for Hamlin.

I remember it well. I was sitting on the Westlake side and saw him just collapse backwards from the bench. Scary scene but glad he was ok afterwards.

I think his name was Matt Nader if I recall correctly.

The Matt Nader story: Westlake OL 2006. It doesn't seem that long ago.

Dont remember that, but remember Hank Gathers suddenly dyingnfrom an unknown heart condition back in the late 80's.

While rare, it also isnt unusual to hear about an athelete with a heart condition that was undiagnosed, mostly because at a young age and im good health, thins arent looked for.

Hank Gathers collapsed and died at mid court. That was the only time I've ever seen what I've seen tonight. Total shock then and total shock tonight.

Both kids played high school sports at Westlake. The Matt Nader incident was the reason both kids had their hearts tested.

Just mentioned Hank Gathers with family. None of them recalled that incident.

The one that sticks with me, because I was there and saw it happen, was Ryan Shay dying at the US marathon Olympic trials in '07 in Central Park. Turned out he had an enlarged heart. Obviously had no clue bc he was one of the best marathoners in the US.

Reminds me of the band member back in 96? who collapsed mid march during the century band reunion or something. Scary to watch from the stands.

I was also there, hard not to remember the eerie silence as if he was already dead. I so wanted to hear Farmers Fight for him but didn't have the balls myself to get it going. This said if I ever drop, once somebody gets on the CPR thing Please bring on the yells loud enough to wake me up.

I was 9. Playing the Bears. I only remember hearing about it. Didn't see it happen. They ended up playing out that game after he was taken off the field. He died later that afternoon. Several hours after I think.

I hope this isn't that thing at all. Latest news sounds promising but very cautious.

The former band member who collapsed at halftime on the field was in 1994

The Westlake player Nader collapsing on sideline and having the be revived by his parents , I was at that game.
Remember it well.
That Incident is why now defibrillators are required by UIL at all UIL football games. If Westlake did not have one on their sideline that night Nadar would of died on the sideline.

He's not breathing on his own if he's still intubated. At least they've got him somewhat stable. Praying for improvements.

Sounds like the AED might e saved another life tonight if Damar H survives this. Seconds are so critical.

Everyone needs to be CPR and AED trained. Feel like that should be a necessity taught in high school

This right here. CPR is a must. I'm pretty sure that depending on the AED it gives verbal instructions too.

I saw that too. I know players/coaches forced their hands but I have little doubt NFL would've suspended this game anyway. I'm sure they a much bigger clearance pipeline to officially do so.

Yeah, but generally after a cardiac arrest, we won't extubate until the next day even if it looks like we are able to typically due to precautionary measures. So it doesn't necessarily mean he can't breath on his own. Also, depending on the attending managing him, if he is not completely up to date with the literature (within the last 2 years) they might still be cooling all cardiac arrest patients for 48 hours which typically requires these patients on mechanical ventilation and heavy sedation.

Long way of saying that we can't say one way or the other based on that tweet alone, but young age, near immediate CPR and early defibrillation are all very good prognostic signs.

Really hoping this is the case for him.

Outside of an update saying, "he's good and has the game feed on tv at the hospital," this game wasn't continuing regardless of who "called" it.

Nothing horrible, big thing is that since he is generally a d-bag, anytime he tweets or posts people automatically assume he is being a d-bag.
