Injury requiring cart with about 1:30 left.
Several teammates come out to hug the guy.
Then more.
Then the whole team.
It's what sports should always be.
The stupid cart driver didn't stop, but should have, because the whole team was coming to surround him.
I love it when sports teach us about what life is supposed to be.
This. I did a lot of coaching when my son was a youth athlete. I had a boss who also coached a lot in his younger days. We would discuss the experience occasionally, and what do the kids get out of the experience.
He always said, that some kids never experienced a positive communication with an adult, which is a possibility in youth sports...... communicating with your coach.
Coached a little youth basketball, T ball, and live pitch. I learned three things from another coach that coached a couple of my kids before I got involved. One was to expect the best from the highly skilled players, but don't expect the same result from those of lesser skills. Secondly, the goal should be to have everyone get more than one year better than they were at the beginning of the season, hopefully have them progress in their skills more than a single season in the season you coach them. Thirdly, and most importantly, find something to praise every kid on the team, every game. Have to make it sincere, but if all the kid did positively is inbound the ball correctly, make sure he or she knows you noticed and are proud of them.
