The NIL and seasonal free agency.

I don't think we yet realize how disastrous this combination is for NCAA sports. They've created an semi-pro league. How long before the veneer of 'student athlete' drops the 'student' part. After all, is it 'fair' and 'equitable' to force football players to pass academic classes?

What's this going to look like in 10 years?

A lot of us realized this from the very beginning, July 2021.

And we also said, in about 10 years this is going to be a circus on fire. We were wrong about this one, though. It's here now.

Part of what I liked about watching FCS playoff games the past few weeks was watching plays without having to hear where each of the players involved played last year, and the year before, and...

It will never be what is was before, but I doubt it looks like it currently does much longer. It will depend on the decision makers whether the product is palatable or better in any way than other sporting options a few years from now. Unfortunately, I don't trust college football's current decision makers.

Honest question, why is it done?

The majority of fans don't follow recruiting that closely and probably don't give two ****s if their starting QB was from UTSA, then Baylor, now at Alabama.....

I'm pretty over college football but not really because of this. ESPN has made it damn near impossible to watch. I don't have time to, nor care to, sit down and watch multiple 4-5 hour games every weekend. I still watch and keep up with the Ags but don't think I watched an entire game that didn't involve A&M this year.

I've watched less college football every year, starting when Mond and his boys pulled their stunt. I have no desire for A&M to win a "NC" by being the highest bidder. I think it's probably blown out of proportion a bit, but it's just unseemly. The "craft" and "talents' crowd is nauseating.

It's just not exciting to me. The Florida player last week is a perfect example, no question someone was in his ear telling him to "protect" himself.

I know there's an age cutoff, where a lot see nothing wrong with outwardly paying for players, but I just see it as a huge disappointment. At the current rate, I doubt I'll even be watching in 5 years. That is crazy because my life has revolved around college football. Hell, I got married on a Friday so as to be in Kyle on Saturday....for a Middle Tennesse State game in November of '95!

The athletes no longer are forced to be shamateurs. Cry a whole bunch of rivers. The last SCOTUS decision was 9-0 and frankly Congress has other important things to do than grant monopolies.

The Aggie admin and AD were so scared of getting caught paying players while Bama, LSU, tOSU and others were literally handing on $100s on sidelines that we were stuck like Chuck. Now it's open season and the integrity of college football is ruined???

Lol check my recent post history and get back to me. In the last year probably 90% on the baseball, houston, or H&F boards. As for the 12th man foundation donor, still have baseball tickets. Haven't had my football season tickets in probably 4 or 5 years.

CFB will only become the best it can be once P5 leaves NCAA and schools are required to pay players. Not NIL where schools still profit and don't pay. Running a billion dollar industry without having to pay the workforce is nothing more than modern day slavery.

I'm with you. College football / Aggie football has been my favorite form of outside entertainment since I became an Aggie in the fall of '81. I don't really follow any other sport. I think I need to take up a new hobby.

Exactly. The only people affected are the billionaires profiting off the backs of others labor.

A&M has paid players forever, they haven't paid 800K a year money. I'm fairly certain they still assign players to boosters in one way or the other. The names may have gotten money, 95% the team, not much. I know my Dad used to give $50, $100 handshakes in the 70's...

The one and done seasons in which next year is a massively new team is not changing.

I suggest you get rid of ESPN and get YouTubeTV.

Seriously, I have had it for a couple of years now. I can record all college football games (very few exceptions) every week. After recording, I can use "key plays" for games I'm not that interested in, and I can fast-forward complete games to skip all commercials, time outs, reviews, etc...... that cuts the watching time very short for the complete games you want to watch.

Also, you can use the "key plays" approach, and when you get to a point where the game is interesting (e.g., tied going into the 4 Qtr), you can then watch the rest using the fast-forward approach to eliminated non-playing time.

The ONLY valid ANNUAL goal for ALL Aggie Sports is a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

Not sure NIL ruined college football. Look at Tennessee this year. Or USC. Tenn caught fire after getting a 9th year soph QB on his 6th school and they didn't care, they just went football crazy. I think every team that catches the hot players will be fine with it. Now second and third tier teams?... They are done forever.

The thing that killed College football for me is how boring all football has become. No teams play with originality, teams get too many possessions, etc. It is just hard to ask me to watch a football game (college or pro) when I could be doing pretty much anything else. It makes it even worse with the style A&M plays. My god we are boring.

NIL and transferring will get reined in over time. It is a chaotic ****show right now.

One thing they need to fix is the number of freaking commercial breaks, and how long the games take. It is ridiculous.

Many, many football players and basketball players haven't been "student athletes" for quite a while.

Then you'd have no problem asking the players to pay for their "free" education, housing, professional training, and marketing, right?

One thing that might alleviate some of this mess is having a minimum two year requirement wherever you go. It'll never happen.

It's now semi-pro with the veneer of education…

Frankly, with unlimited student loans and NIL, ANYONE can now go to college at any time in their life…

The schollie aspect is virtually worthless to the HS star who gets an NIL payday…

It NEEDS to blow up in order to fix it…
