What can be done about it?

That's actually kind of pathetic. I get he would be frustrated, but there IS a way to handle that, and crying on Twitter isn't really it.

i do not use twitter so i would never air my dirty laundry on twitter however what exactly does a UTSA or a school like that do in this situation? the ncaa is doing nothing. so reporting it will create no response, it is the wild west and smaller schools that are good are going to get killed in this scenario. either have rules and enforce them or get rid of all of them.

My guess is that the other ways aren't working, and that is why he is resorting to Twitter. I would hate to be in his position right now dealing with this, so I will cut him as much slack as he needs. Under the new rules, it is going to be impossible to keep any talent at the G5 level.

They've tried addressing it through formal channels. The NCAA is silent. G5 schools are responding by raising the conversation themselves.

Nothing can be done nor will be done. The fans and players wanted it and got it.

No going back now, should've thought about the consequences before taking actions

If it's within the rules and it seems like it is then what's the complaint?

But what's the alternative, telling G5 players sorry your stuck there?

Traylor is hinting at the same point Jimbo and Buzz have pointed to. If there is any contact prior to the athlete entering the portal that is against the spirit of the rules and smells like tampering.

Worst yet: the advisor the athlete is permitted to retain for NIL deals has a strong interest in discovering deals that flow money to the athlete and therefore to the advisor's business. So there is a natural conflict of interest that pushes advisors towards involvement as agents in school choice decisions.

Pandora's box is wide open. When do the players unionize, and when does the NCAA set "NIL Caps" to make things fair?

It probably starts with the players reaching out to one of their buddies. How do you stop that. All of these kids love social media and all the attention it brings. Until they come up with some rules about the portal you won't be able to stop it. I'd bet it's not only happening at the smaller schools but at the major schools too.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the schools are permitted to contact players on other teams before they've added their names to the portal. Of course no one could ever fully enforce that, but I get that it probably sucks for G5 schools if Bama/Texas/Ohio St reach out to your all-conference linebacker and essentially moneywhip him out of there (just an example).

Again, the NCAA had a century to figure out some sort of system to curtail all this, but they were content to get fat and happy in their corner office and once they were essentially forced to implement NIL it's turned into absolute chaos.

They're going to just have to get rid of the rule and add a minimum number of years rule. Sort of like NFL contracts. You're committed to your original school for at least 2 years or at least 2 years of eligibility or something like that. But there is absolutely no way to enforce any sort of anti-tampering rules. It's impossible. And I don't fault Coach for going this route because you know dang well that he's already tried official channels and they told him to get over it.

The NCAA can't do anything. Even though the unanimous SCOTUS Alston decision was just about limits on resources provided by schools to athletes, Kavanaugh's concurring opinion made it crystal clear that the NCAA's model is illegal and any attempt to limit what athletes earn will result in a loss in court.

Welcome to free market capitalism.

I said this in another thread tongue-in-cheek, but still.

P5 teams need to "associate" with a (or more) G5 teams and FCS teams for development/contract purposes.

Rather than redshirt a player in College Station, let him play at a G5 or FCS school and then the P5 team can "draft" them or call them up.

If a player needs to rehab or get more play time, send him down.

Let's not pretend school is important, anymore.

I see nothing wrong with it. Clearly the NCAA is continuing to just be as weak as possible on the subject. What is someone in his position supposed to do when there's nobody to report violations to who will take anything seriously? He's trying to force the debate in the public square. I support that.

There's a complete lack of leadership to help put things in place to solve the very obvious consequences of NIL/1 free transfer era. I think last year schools weren't fully sure how to handle it...some took advantage, others didn't. This year it's clear as day tampering and paying guys is just going to be allowed to it's as wild a west as there can be.

First steps they can do to try and take care of some of it is move signing day back to February without the early period and don't open the portal until after the bowls. Early signing day was smart before the 1-free-transfer rule...but right now it's chaos.

Add in the 1 extra year for anyone in college during COVID and this is just a mess.

Yep

By Putting it on twitter he's trying to make everyone aware of it, including the ncaa, and trying to "shame" them into doing something about it or get other outside forces like the media and other coaches whose teams are having this done to them apply pressure

College ball is getting even scummier than I thought it would. Like pro sports you never know what the team will look like until next year. No rules. Kind of like the world we live in.

Where is this 'sips must be doing coming from? Does UTSA have an edge rusher worth tampering for?

Ah. There's some smoke that it's the Pac 12 and SEC members poaching. Someone on this Twitter thread specfically says Ole Miss contacted an Arkansas player. Who knows if it is really true though?

I'd like to see some evidence or even discussion that we sips are doing this. I know we're rivals, but c'mon. I don't think my school is saintly white, but this seems like just a broad accusation without anything to back it.

Ah, you're having fun with me. Trayler never says anything about UT-Austin trying to poach his players. OP just took the Twit and then ran with it. I guess I took the bait, but I'm genuinely interested if Texas is doing anything like this. It seems unsporting even if there are probably no rules against it.

Doubt it's in the high end players best interest to unionize, but probably is for the non big time player. The must have players can maximize their NIL by themselves.

Rumor has it that Addazio and his son are trying to poach some safeties from CSU. I don't like the Adazzios, and I don't like poaching players in this manner, so I hope it's nothing more than rumor.
