Since UT has the largest fan base of any college in the Alamo City and Austin is only 80 miles away, can you blame the Alamo Bowl for wanting them regularly? As pointed out, if it's not a major bowl, then you want a nearby bowl in order to maximize fan interest.

Again, the Alamo Bowl is the top non NY6 bowl for the Big 12. They get 2nd place Big12 team, or 3rd if the big 12 has someone in the playoffs. The Alamo bowl doesn't choose who they get, it's assigned. If TCU hadn't made the playoffs, it would have been TCU. KState winning the Big12 guaranteed them a spot in the Sugar bowl.

That's why decided to only win five games and not qualify the Texas Bowl (which is where we probably would have ended up), to avoid padding this stat.

At 6-6 we probably would have gone to the Vegas Bowl and got beat by Oregon St instead of Florida
