I'm surprised the Alamo Bowl hasn't been named after the sips by now.
they play in it a ton -- almost seems like every year
I remember watching that game on TV. Great Wrecking Crew performance. Detmer won the Heisman that year as I recall and the Aggies had missed out on bigger things with a late game loss I believe. They were angry and played like it.DecadePlan said:
My favorite bowl game was the Holiday between the Ags and Ty Detmer/BYU. Two separated shoulders later the Heisman winner walked off the field a losing QB. That night the Ags were kings of San Diego (they were NOT fans of the BYU Cougars there)

Not so fast my friend.
Sips have played in the Alamo 6 times in it's 29 year history. Next highest is Iowa and Okie Light w/4 each.
Odd are had we stayed in the Big 12 we'd have just as many appearances as Texas. By the time we left we had played in it 3 times. Due to how the Big 12 bowl hierarchy is structured we easily would have gone to the Alamo at least 2-3 more times in the last 10 years if not more.
Alamo Bowl appearances
6 - Texas
4 - Oklahoma State, Iowa
3 - Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Colorado, Nebraska, Oregon
2 - TCU, Baylor, Kansas State, Penn State, Purdue, Washington, Washington State, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern
1 - California, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, UCLA, Wisconsin, Arizona, Iowa State, Oregon State, Stanford, Utah
As far as the Texas Bowl is concerned, we are going to it at roughly the same clip the sips are going to the Alamo.
Even though the NCAA records view the Houston Bowl and Texas Bowl as two different games they are for all intents and purposes the same bowl and in the 23 years that one has been going we've been 4 times going in '01, '11, '16, and '19.
You are correct that I am making a couple of assumptions. Mainly that once Sumlin is hired in '12 we win at the same rate we have won in the SEC. Obviously there is no guarantee we even fire Sherman in '11 had we remained in the Big 12.TheTruthsLastHope said:Dr RC said:whatthehey78 said:Not even closenot hedge said:

Context and facts make the op even worse. We're 3?appearances behind while being gone for 10 years. Only assumption you've made is that we would have magically been an every year bowl team in the big 12. Largely had no success at the time we left big 12 and have had even lesser success in SEC. More logical to conclude if we had stayed that would have been more wins for Texas probably prompting them to a different bowl game.

This thread was the bat signal for the long time sip trolls. Well done OP. Brought them out in force.
As stated earlier we were also in it our last season of the Big 12 and in what is essentially the same bowl in '01.W said:
A&M has been to the Texas Bowl twice since joining the SEC --- two times in the past decade.
that's not the same pace the sips are on with the Alamo Bowl

And to be clear I was 1000000% agreeing with your post. Adds much clarity and context. Again only 3 appearances behind while being gone for 10 years. On top of op making fun of Texas for being in Alamo bowl while we went 5-7 and had a home loss to App state in year 5. I don't think the fanbase understands things aren't going to get too much better until Jimbos tenure here is over. We're at least another 2-3 seasons away from that at a min.

Also, we've been in the SEC for 10 years. 2 time in 10 years in an average of once every 5 which... wait for it... is the same clip the sips go to the Alamo.
