Brent Z is on the Mt Rushmore of Aggie sports reporting.

Because he's a privileged, white man who is celebrated far beyond his contributions to society while overlooking the horrible biases and discriminatory practices he perpetrates against marginalized groups?

(In this scenario, we're the marginalized group.)

BZ covers the Aggies for a major newspaper, and his approach is how reporters cover sports for major newspapers. He isn't a hater.

That doesn't make him any less of a hack.

Do you consider reporters and media people that over hype the place hacks as well?
Where is your middle ground?

There are very few true journalists remaining. Journalists I like...and like a lot. Reporters who only care about sensationalism (over hyping or dragging down) just to get clicks do nothing for me. There are a handful of true journalists out there...but not very many.

Love that BZ guy. He's always coming up with crazy takes. you never know if he's gonna give you a hug or plunge a dirty, made in China kitchen knife into your back.

Their journalism department has put a fair number of alums in the newspaper business.

Maybe not journalists in the traditional sense, but Chris Fowler and Rece Davis do a pretty good job IMO. Adam Schefter (sp.?) seems to be fairly to the point. I used to enjoy reading Dennis Dodd's stuff, but he seems to have drifted more to the dark side. Scott Van Pelt is good, too.

The idea that journalism is some unbiased, objective field is a complete myth. It has always been so. If it weren't, it wouldn't need a Constitutional amendment to protect it. As a field it has always been subjective, and those in it ALL have biases. There just is no such thing as an unbiased, objective journalist. Never has been.

I don't think people are looking for true objectivity. To bring it back to the OP, he was complaining that BZ writes only those kinds of stories about A&M; to the point that it's become redundant and boring.

Someone mentioned Olin earlier and the difference between him and BZ is that I see OB cover A&M from many different points of view. What I (and probably many others) don't know is if BZ actually does write about A&M from any other point of view. I only see his stories/tweets when someone posts them here.

(If he lurks on Texags, he's probably loving the fact that people have posted this much about him.)

I consider the first 2 simply talking heads on game broadcasts. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Adam Schefter looks to have a more indepth career but I don't follow him. Guess I'll take a look now.

LOL. this is the most ridiculous list when discussing 'true journalists'

All those (or most) you listed are good at what they do, but we're really conflating things here if we're lumping all of them in. Why not throw in Romo for good measure?

I would like to compare how Olin covered the Longhorns when he drew a paycheck from the Statesman vs how he coveres the Aggies when he draws a paycheck from TexAgs. Might as well throw in how he covered the teams when he was at Rivals and Yahoo.

It would be interesting to see if there was a change of approach over the jobs.

BZ works for a failing business in a failing medium so the poor guy has to chirp about something. Jimbo is the low hanging fruit.
Been reading this comment for years yet people on TexAGs keep getting all worked up about what they say. Why are people so worried an upset what a guy writes if he is in failing business in a failing medium. I mean, no one reads that stuff anymore right?

I've never read any of his writing except what is quoted here. I'm fine.

Good to know..need more people like you instead of some of these bleeders who rush to TexAgs every time they have an issue with what someone writes on an "old dying medium" that they don't like. Even though the worst things I read on the daily about our Ags is on this very site from our own devout fans. Yet they seemingly don't have a problem with that...
