From what I understand once a player enters the portal their scholarship is no longer required to be honored by the school. To me that says that if someone isn't picked up somewhere else they want to go we can decide if we want them back. This would likely happen after we've filled from the portal. All that to say, do we expect to be willing to receive anyone back that's entered in the portal? Makes sense that we would on a case by case basis.

My 2 cents, with no knowledge of how it actually works, is that you honor the scholarship until the player leaves. It's petty to threaten to pull a scholarship.

I am going to be curious where everyone who leaves ends up and how much of a drop/ rise they take both in school they choose and future production levels
I'm sure there are quite a few we would take back out of the portal. Since the portal is flooded and each school has 85 scholarship spots but only 22 starting spots, I'm hoping there will be several players that don't find what they're looking for at other schools. We could use more players like Leon O'Neal.
That being said, I think it's mostly wishful thinking. I'd be curious to see the numbers, but I think most players who enter the transfer portal don't return.

Josh Pate had a video at the beginning of the month that said there would be a lot of gnashing of teeth over specific guys entering the portal who would end up never leaving. I think it is fair to wonder how many of these we have.

Just guessing here but if some don't find greener pastures-which is likely - I bet they will come back. It's not necessarily a declaration that I'm gone but - can I find a better situation.

We are witnessing a giant game of musical chairs and some kids are going to end up without a seat, or at the very least a seat that wasn't what they hoped for when they entered the game.

It seems to me that the ONLY leverage a school could have concerning the portal is to set a policy that if you enter the portal you are not going to be taken back.

So they jump in the Portal in NOV, they get to finish and financial aid thru the end of December.
But to come back in January???? IMO those would be the one's that might have second thoughts and may decide to return.

Probably some players that get their 'ships pulled as soon as teams are allowed to do it, and others that coaches hope will come back. Probably not a "one size fits all" approach.

I think there is something else going on with some of these kids. For most of them, their high school recruiting was a giant ego trip. A couple dozen coaches fawning over them, quite a few (creepy) fans obsessed to know which school they will choose. And many of them turn it into a drama fest. Then they go off to campus, get buried on the depth chart, and don't even play much their first couple years. What a huge comedown!
Looking at some of these announcements ("my recruitment is wide open!"), seems like they just want to get back to he glory days.

Not sure. I think the fancy recruiting stories and the I want to post on social media has been out there for a decade or so. Sabin was the Master of straightening you out when you got to campus. To the best of my knowledge, Bama was the ONLY Team that didn't have any SJ messaging (aka Rat Poison) on their uniforms in the COVID/Natl Championship season. And you gotta wonder since this is such a NEW TRAIL, that those that understand that the Odds of Success are stacked against them, haven't been around to tell the tale. How many portal players will end up at a smaller FBS school, with little or no NIL $$?
Think this is the same thing that tells some of these kids that the "Team Rules" don't apply to them, so hey look at me. Someone thinks I'm a "5 Star" and my Stuff doesn't stink.
In HS yea they can run fast and lift weights, and Sumlin was RIGHT, when he said "They all look good in Shorts." But that changes when the Pads come on.
I just remember how much I despised Prime Time. Both at FSU and Pokes. But decades later, fatherhood, etc he has a different story to tell. Much of his TODAY message I like.

I prefer the enter the portal and talk about options then come back if he can't find a school over
Talk to other schools while still on the team then hit the postal with a firm offer
