Good bull.

A nice gesture that would have been even better without the the self aggrandizing comments about Kyle Field, that part literally adds nothing and distracts from the message almost entirely.

We are better than that
I disagree. It said "We feel the same way about you, Coach, as you did about us."

People today think it's cool to try to find fault in every good gesture.
except that it didn't actually say that lol, if that is what you meant then you might want to include that in the message because its not easily inferred, words matter.

and I wasn't trying to be cool, just thought it was a little sanctimonious
That is the implication, like hey you called us the Carnegie Hall so we wanted to reciprocate the feelings and show you that a place that you spoke Highly of will honor you. It is sharing a personal connection rather than just the standard platitudes of you will be missed .

Some of you need your asses kicked. It was a lovely tribute and there was nothing wrong with it. Get over yourselves.

RIP Coach, unique person, you will be missed.

Smart move, get it out there so people don't come up with so many absurd homages for someone who never coached here. Now I am a big fan of him as a coach, a pirate out the stands of Kyle field, helmet stickers and etc. on our behalf is over the top.
Completely agree.

The virtue signaling on this site is total cringe.

1) The fact that there has been serious criticism about us drawing attention/self promoting us with the Kyle Field is glorious comment on the Tweet, while honoring Coach Leach is a no brainer in terms of public relations. It was bad optics you for many. You cannot debate that A&M messed up NO MATTER THEIR GOOD INTENT. A public relations manager should have signed off on that tweet. I'm not being a Karen.
It's not an absolute HORRIFIC mistake [for anyone with difficulty in reading comprehension I said it is absolutely not horrific] (if I had said it was horrific then maybe taking it down a notch would make some sense but that was not the case at all) and in fact many see it as classy but we could've done it with zero backlash easily not with 15%, 2O%, …30 % backlash. Take the tweet down and reword it not for our image but because it's the Aggie thing to do.
2) I wrote President Banks yesterday requesting half-mast flags for several days but I'd add a Pirates flag underneath the USA flag or a Mississippi State Flag at the 2nd or 3rd order. No tweets about this. Pirate flags on the top decks of Kyle Field for a few weeks. No tweets. I think these ideas do not sell promote and they're not over the top.
3. Christmas break is upon us so it might be too late, but it would be great if the students sold Leach T-shirts and the profits wouldn't go to Mississippi State or other charity that Leach had. We don't need to advertise glory to our self just get it done.

The time to act is immediately. For those of you who think this is just too much and some have mentioned it's laughable, maybe this is the time to practice not moving your lips or typing. Perhaps you just keep your opinions to yourself. The vast majority of Aggies have high morals and please don't try to truncate what is at the root a deep Aggie spirit. This isn't that hard. Can we unite civilly? If Texas Aggies can't do this …,,

Has it ever occurred to you, just possibly, that the vast majority of this is not virtue signaling, but genuine like, love, and respect for a very decent humble human being?
Your comments are the ones typically found on the politics board.
Has it ever possibly occurred to you, that many Texas Aggies are truly genuinely, deeply saddened by this tragedy? That the vast majority are not trying to virtue signal but be compassionate and decent human beings? And if that last statement is true, your accusing them of virtue signaling is nothing but mean-spirited, misplaced knee jerk reactions using an overused cliche, and way off base. If F60.81 is part of who you are, you'll never admit that you might just be a little bit overboard yourself in your criticism. It's OK to sometimes keep your opinions to yourself, especially when genuine loving memories to yourself. I see genuineness in almost every since "virtual signaling" comment. 98% of us do. Class of 1983 here.

I liked the man and think his loss is a tragedy. But some of the things being proposed are absurd. HE WASN'T OUR COACH. Has it occurred to you that these actions should be reserved for the teams he coached? How stupid would it be if our team ran out on the field with pirate stickers? Pirate flags around Kyle field? I mean WTF?

If you want to sing your praises and show everyone how sad you are, go do that on facebook. But to expect Texas A&M to do anything other than offer condolences is not appropriate.

You can be compassionate and decent without showboating about how much you loved Coach Leach. Get over yourself, and stop acting like the University has any obligation to make you feel better about this loss.

I am with you, I think more than anything it was most likely dreamed up (the KF reference) as a way to legitimize why Texas A&M was even honoring a non texas a&m coach at KF.

But the wording of the tweet was exceedingly poor, should have been reviewed and tweaked

I think Texas A&M Athletics made a smart move. Coach Mike Leach has made a tremendous impact on numerous people and institutions across the country. Sure, we were boasting about Kyle Field a bit, but that is just another part of his legacy.

Agreed, something that establishes greif more like "Mike Leach honored Kyle Field by calling it 'One of the greatest places to play,' Today we honor one of the greatest Coaches of all time and send our condolences to Leach's family and our friends at Mississippi State."

Still reading the replies like how the people from Mississippi State, and Texas Tech are appreciative of the post while the people from Arkansas and TU are trashing it.

Showboating? Some serious psychotherapy may be in order. Your assumptions are very telling. I hope you're under 35 to explain the immaturity of your comments. You don't know me at all and your perceptions are your responsibility. I never said I loved him or liked him more than anybody else. Have a nice night.
You chose to be devisive instead of realizing that some emotions are running high. There comes a time when it's best just to not say anything. With maturity you'll get there. Sorry you're divorced (I assume).

"But to expect Texas A&M to do anything other than offer condolences is not appropriate." Wow! Flying Pirate flags at Kyle Field during the Mississippi State bowl game would be inappropriate? Really? What percentage of True Ags would find that inappropriate?
My guess is 2% but I'm an Old Ag. I wouldn't advertise flying pirate flags on top of Kyle Field's top deck during the Miss State bowl game. Sure, nobody is going to be inside Kyle Field on that day but students will notice it. I would just do it as a silent tribute. I guess in your world that would be showboating. SMH.
