Recruiting wars are overrated

I've been saying for years that the recruiting wars are overrated. The five stars, the four stars, ... None of it matters unless they have the character, heart and drive. I'd take the TCU or KSU teams in a clean swap for ours. Everything that happened on and off the field this year proves it.

But then if we swapped they'd be Ags and would only break your heart.

Interesting. How have all of the past, oh, 10 national champions, recruited?

TCU would have more than 3 losses in the SEC so the 5 stars and 4 stars kinda do matter.

I just checked. KState and Utah have never had a 5* recruit ever since they started ranking them. And TCU has only had one. Zach Evans, who isn't even there anymore

Coincidentally I don't see a lot of posing or strutting either. Just kids doing their jobs. And doing them damn well.

As far as winning national titles recruiting clearly matters. When was the last team to win a National title that didn't have regular top 10 recruiting classes or better

You can be a top 10 team with a bunch of 3 stars, but you aren't winning a NC that way. TCU about to prove that. Again.

You forgot to say no e of it matters unless you have a great coach.

If you care about just "playing with heart" you may be right.

Winning championship in SEC or Big 10? Then you are way off

And I don't disagree with that either. A shame, rare is the kid like Achane with 5* talent and 3* attitude

Disagree.

None of it matters unless you have a great QB.

Case in point- Eddie O @ LSU.

The Big 12 has yet to win even a single game in the playoffs.

So no, I wouldn't take their roster. That character, heart, and drive would be short-lived in the SEC.

Why 3* attitude?

Not sure about that. I think they could play with anyone in the SEC west this year. Bama showed they are vulnerable. Lost 2 and almost lost to us and the sips. There's no other dominant team in the west. Doubt they'd win the west but they'd have as good a chance as anyone. TCU has a lot of seniors on that team. Those guys just find a way to win. Should have run power with Duggan in overtime. Times TCU has gone to big bowls they've won against supposed superior teams. I wouldn't under estimate them.

Yeah, I guess you guys are right. We could NEVER win a national championship with a 3 star or a walk-on at a crucial position like QB, because we're in the SEC!!!

This argument is a relic of the past. You no longer even need to develop any 3 stars. You have weaker, poorer programs to do that for you.

Just recruit from college football (not high school) and take the best 3 (or 2 or 1) star players from the group of 5 and FCS. Every SINGLE player who is all conference MAC, CUSA, Mountain West, AAC or FCS All-American should be playing in the SEC or Big 10 next year. Will we get them or will we leave them all for Lane, Brian Kelly, Saban, Coach Prime, and Lincoln Riley.

So you would take them over us in our youngest team in decades exacerbated where we had damn near 20 guys out with injuries most games

We would beat them the majority of years, and I'd bet money on next year. In large part due to recruiting. But you need to be talented AND experienced, and we were the worst team in the country on the second point

Saying it means nothing based on such little data when the majority of data still suggests the opposite is a poor argument

Orgeron is not a bad coach. He is an idiot off the field, but he's not a bad coach.

All you have to do is wait until they're 24, then return them for their 25th year around the sun also.

Not even so much the humility. It's the drive to excel and the willingness to put team above self when needed. How many 5* prima donnas would have done what Achane did last weekend?

Not very damn many, I can assure you. They'd have gone all "bowl game" and opted out

The reason TCU is good and the Ags are bad is because they have a ton of juniors and seniors and we have a ton of freshmen.

Tell that to the Texas Aggie alums and supporters who spent $10 million for last year's recruiting class.

Good point. We should stop recruiting and just set some snares on hwy6 and keep only the fastest and most motivated players we can trap.

Everyone is right in their own mind!!!! However, having fun playing a sport is something I just can't complain about, but that is not what the issue is between winning and losing.

Worth repeating. The portal completely changed college football.
