Many more variables than just the coach contributed to our OLine woes.

Can you do a comparison to a "normal" program like Florida or Tech... What is the NCAA average in those categories??? If he is below average he should be gone simple as that!!!
Better than teams with historically good OL like Wisconsin and Iowa. Also better than some good teams, this season, like LSU and Kentucky.
Like any stat, style of play and surrounding personnel plays a big role in the numbers. If you objectively look at things (not many here can) we played about as you would expect when dealing with the injuries and youth.
Except, objectively, we were 5th from last in total plays run, so being in the middle in total allowed means we operated well in the bottom half of efficiency.
.
We were 116th out of 131 in offensive plays per game. Towards the bottom but not 5th from the bottom, and we were 63 in yards per play, so top half of efficiency.
Sorry for expecting the NCAA statistics page to sort by all instead of page. You're right, 15th from the bottom of 131 is A LOT better than 5th. They're completely different.
I'll spell it out for you... When it comes to negative plays, we were inefficient. We were 82 in plays per TFL allowed and 78 in plays per sack allowed. That's just shy of the bottom third in both and well in the bottom half.
And in the offensive efficiency category that matters most, points, we were a whopping 92 in points per play and 110 in points per yard. So all the work the offense did on the field didn't translate to the scoreboard. Yds/play doesn't win games because drives must end in points if you want to win. You can have a high Yds/play, but if you are killing drives with penalties and/or negative plays, you can still suck because your drives die before you score.
We had average yards per play, well below average negative plays per play, and way below average points per play. When it comes to doing the only thing that matters, which is scoring, no, we were not efficient, and yes, our inefficiency in avoiding negative plays hurt.
You can't just pick the stats that make your argument. How many teams had as many freshmen offensive linemen starting as we did?GigEm_AValk said:eATMup-Reveille said:

2013 - 57 for 248 yards
2014 - 68 for 281 yards
2015 - 76 for 325 yards
2016 - 70 for 303 yards
2017 - 82 for 312 yards
2018 - 89 for 372 yards

2020 - 38 for 105 yards
2021 - 69 for 260 yards
2022 - 66 for 243 yards
Interestingly, it's the lowest since Jimbo's been here, other than the 2020 season.

Less impressive when you factor in that we rank toward the bottom of college football in offensive plays per game.

At a glance, Henson was a great coach. Wish he had stuck around. I'm amazed at the numbers for 2012. Gold standard material with a very elusive QB. Maybe we didn't notice because Manziel would routinely erase losses by running for 20 on 3rd and 15. As for Addazio I'm okay if he's retained because those stats clearly show every coach had significant improvement from year 1 to 2. With that said, there were documented lookout blocks this year that showed awful technique. Not being cohesive yet, I get. But fundamentals should have been better.
Matt Rhule was OC at Temple from 2008 to 2011 and returned as HC in 2013 to 2015. In 2015 Temple had a 10 win season. Just sayin'..TheDraw said:
