12 team playoff extremely diminishes yesterday's victories by saving Ohio St., Clemson, LSU, and probably Oregon.

I'll take yesterday's college atmosphere over a "give me a second chance" playoff. Talk about woke!!

This. The expansionists don't realize that a 12 team playoff significantly diminishes the importance of rivalry week and big regular season games. I think 6 teams in fine. It keeps the importance of the regular season games.

It could turn rivalry week into the final week of the NFL season. Most teams are in no matter what (maybe a little seeding battle) and a couple of 'important' games for long shot teams. Teams ranked 12-20 will be in the big games. I wouldn't even be surprised if top teams rested guys. If there aren't automatic qualifiers from conference championships, those games are obsolete for the most part.

I'm not for 12 teams for this reason, but I'll still watch….so they'll get tv eyes from me either way.

doesn't change anything as to LSU. They'd still need to win SEC to get in if a 12 team playoff.

and to say conference championship week won't matter is also very wrong. being a top 4 conference winner and get a bye is huge.

Well, that's exactly OPs point. With 12 teams in, last nights loss for LSU is a big nothingberger. With only 4 teams, they now lost their chance even if they win next week. The 4 team playoff made last night a much more impactful game than it would have been with a 12 team playoff.

so You think a 4 loss lsu team makes the 12 team playoffs?

A 2 loss one that was ranked 5 and then lost to Georgia to get 3 losses would still have a good chance to get in, but losing to us last night would have just forced lsu to beat number 1 to make the 12 team field

That's a big difference

I would argue that it will increase the importance of more games on the final weekend as teams fight for spots in the top 12. You will also have a battle for byes and home field advantage. There is plenty to play for.

I can't imagine fans not wanting to see more games with topped-ranked teams. Personally, I can't wait to see some crazy upsets.

Every school will want the highest seed possible and play balls out last week.

It's guaranteed 100% that every fan on this site will love the expanded playoff when A&M finishes the regular season 6th and makes it to the NC game.

This is why the higher seed needs to host playoff games and get rid of any connection to bowl games.

The value of hosting a playoff game or two as the higher seed is significant for competitive and financial reasons.

To think that teams would sit players given there only being 6 at-large spots and home field on the line is ludicrous.

Be a real wrench tossed in if Georgia get beat in sec championship game.

I always thought 8 teams was the perfect amount.

A playoff with Bama, Georgia, LSU (or TN), Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson, USC and TCU is the perfect mix.

Anything more is a waste.

8 was never a possibility. Doesn't add any new TV inventory to existing format.

The importance of OSU/Mich game, strictly from the sense of in/out of playoffs, is probably diminished, but yesterday was still a huge day for Clemson, LSU and Oregon whether the playoff is 4 teams or 12.

In addition, a 12 team playoff drastically increases the importance of the following games:

-NC St/UNC
-Bama/Auburn
-Oregon/Oregon St
-Penn St / MSU
-Utah / CU
-ND/USC
-Tenn/Vandy
-KSU / KU
-Wash / Wash St

Why stop at 12? Everyone ranked should get a participation trophy and a shot at the MNC.

With only four teams- "non blue blood"schools like aTm are rarely, if ever going to be involved in the CFP. With 12 teams involved, you get some new blood involved. What schools do, once they get in - is up to them. 12 team playoff, with top seeds getting to host first round playoff game - would be good.

I'm not sure what your point is. I'm not talking about teams fighting for bowl eligibility. I'm talking about teams that would be playing to get into a 12 team playoff.

You either have the power to form a super league or you don't. I'll argue right now it is unpossible. I think the 12-team playoff will be more interesting because six different conferences will be represented and it will be competitive to some extent who gets in. But the at-large teams is where it gets interesting.

As a fan of aTm, anyone should be 100% in support of expanding the CFP to 12 teams, as it means we would be able to get in with a 10-2 or maybe even a 9-3 record.

If we played in the big 12 I wouldn't' care as you are either good enough to go 11-1 or 12-0 to get in and then lose in the 4 team CFP or not, but with our meat-grinder of a schedule it is extremely difficult to go 12-0 or 11-1.

Bama, UT, and lsu would all be 12-0 with tcu's schedule....

I'm an expansionist. 12 team playoff accomplishes the following :

We finally get to compare conference strength between conferences. How often in our history have we played a B10 school for example. Two conferences over 100 years old we probably have played hundreds of times right? Wrong

It enhances the regular season because a team who loses twice early can improve and still be playing for something late in the year

It MASSIVELY improves the post season. The current bowl format is laughable. With a tiny playoff and a bunch of exhibition games.

We get (hopefully) playoff home games and can minimize these corporate cash grab bowl games.
