How is it that these guys are getting busted with it? Did they draw attention? Were they speeding?

But hey, I'm in the, "just don't smoke til you make the cash. Then smoke everyday" camp.

Life is hard. It's a lot harder if you're stupid.

Nobody should be arrested for marijuana. It's time to decriminalize it and call it The Willie Nelson law! Long live liberty!

This isnt the thread for that argument. It gets made every time this happens. I agree. It should be legal.

But it's not at present and the team has made it a rule not to. Why is it so hard to follow the rules?

Sure I have. I've also dieted and lost a significant amount of weight before.

There are rules to reach a goal and be successful. No amount of getting high is comparable to the money to be made in the NFL.

It's called discipline.

Lmao. I can tell you've never tried weed before. Weed does not make it less likely you make the NFL. It actually could make it more likely if you don't get arrested for it. Weed gives you an alternative perspective quite often that can inspire or enlighten you as much as anything.

Serious question: What happens to bud after it's confiscated by LEO?
First of all, it will get stored as evidence until any criminal case is resolved.

Since weed is still illegal in TX, however the case is resolved, it will be destroyed. Probably in some sort of incinerator, but I really don't know. If it's incinerated, it would be at a high enough temperature that you couldn't get high being downwind.

And just for reference, 17 oz of weed is going to be roughly the size of the bag of cereal inside a box of Cheerios in the 14-16 oz range. That's quite a bit of weed.

Man, going from one of the top 100 recruits in the nation to a potential multi-year prison sentence in less than a year. What a steep drop.

I hope some of the other young men on the team are paying attention to how quickly your life can unravel, even if you are extremely talented.

Unfortunately, this. These stories always make me so sad for the kid's family. A grievous stupid mistake and his life is shot. Easy to sit back and dismiss as "stupid games, stupid prizes" when you're not collateral damage to these things like his family is right now.

I was always fearful that this would happen if we started recruiting high-end talent nationally. I'm not sure how elite programs manage it but the longhorns couldn't and apparently we can't either.

Easy to sit back? Seriously? It's called right and wrong, basic stuff. All people make mistakes, but man, this is different. Scholarship player, etc. You can't be this stupid, sorry.

Did they teach me about addiction? No.

I'm not making excuses for him breaking team rules. I'm saying he obviously has as an addiction, or at least a habit and instead of overcoming that, he's choosing the addiction. This isn't uncommon.

I'm all for legalization. In fact, I live in Missouri, where we just voted to legalize.

That having been said, the only kind of person with 17oz is a (low-level) dealer. Not going to bother to look it up, but I think simple possession is a felony in Texas if more than 4oz.

I've always been told that the MJ is harmless and should be legalized. Your argument makes it sound like it could cause addiction and other issues with living a productive life. Now I'm confused. Additionally, 17 oz is not a habit/addiction. It's a dealer.

Porn is "harmless" and legal and people struggle with that addiction. And yes, some people (probably young people) struggle to have a productive life if they are regular users smoking every day.

He may be dealing. But he also allegedly smoked it in the locker room.

Socially/politically speaking, I still think it should be legalized.

"Former Dallas Cowboys star Nate Newton was arrested when police confiscated 213 pounds of marijuana from a van on a highway."
