The title of this thread doesn't even reflect the truth.

PMC fired the cannon for the team entrance. Period. UMass players CHOSE to be in the line of fire. 100% on them.

Nobody fired anything AT them.

It sounds better when you say it that way.

There's a reason the cannon used to be tucked behind the south end zone scoreboard. It's not really even necessary. What happened today was classless, wrong and dangerous. It wasn't like the CT's couldn't see the players kneeling in prayer in the end zone. There's no defense for this. If the zone wasn't 'clear', you don't shoot the toy cannon.

There is another corner of the endzone or idk a million other places to pray to an omnipresent God. Choosing to kneel in front of a ceremonial cannon was a poor choice, but still a choice they made. They continued to make poor choices when they were warned to move and chose to remain.

This isn't shadrach et al defying idolatry, this is two idiot athletes being dumb.

Still a stupid decision to fire away. Two wrongs don't make a right especially when the first "wrong" is a bad choice as to where to pray and the second wrong is firing a cannon at said person praying.

Former BQ who used to be around the cannon all the time. Everyone is told when the cannon will fire and told to move

You were a Q and on the cannon crew/in the cav?

Not on cannon crew, but on the field before halftime when the cannon would fire (back when we scored TDs)

The train crosses University Dr. at 4:45am every morning. If you lay down on the tracks at 4:40...its not the train's fault for your willful stupidity.

He is. They literally go through the same process before every fire. They make sure the 25' zone is clear, there's a warning, and then they fire.

In addition, there are multiple warning signs near the cannon.

Can somebody please school the Texas A&M Commandant how to spell "cannon"? Canonically, cannon is not spelled "canon."

That probably plays into it.

If you're on the cannon crew this season, and you get to fire it upon the team entrance and when the team scores touchdowns, you're not going to miss the opportunity to fire it at the team entrance.

"Let pray by that cannon"
"Like behind or to the side?"
"Right in front of it"
"Bet"
