It's assinine to think the defense has been good and/or is not a problem.

So you are saying we have to be up multiple scores or with a lead late in the game for our good pass defense to take over. Because if the other team has time they can easily run the ball against us.

I believe A&M on pace to have one of the worst rush defenses (per game rush avg) in the entire history of A&M football. And this is coming off a solid year last year and a class that brought in a bunch of great young talent.

Who said the defense has been good and is not a problem?
You did!! I quote "Imagine watching everything that has happened on and off the field this year and singling out Durkin as if he's the problem.

****ing morons."

How in the world can you think Durkin is not a problem????

Yes, we all know the offense has been terrible but the defense, considering the talent we have, has been almost as bad. When teams like Troy do much better defensively against Ole Miss than A&M does, that is a major problem!

THE problem. My point is Durkin/defense is maybe 5th at best in the laundry list of issues affecting the team and staff this year. Maybe 5th.

Then list out the 4 above it then. We all know Jimbo is staying so can't have that one above it if we are being realistic on what can change.

No way Durkin and the defense is all the way down at 5 when we are in the midst of having one of the worst rush defenses in the entire history of Aggie football.

We're not talking about what can change, we're talking about what the major problems are affecting the team this year.

1) Jimbo's offense, his control over it, his playcalls
2) OL development/coaching going into the season
3) Injuries before the year to OL
4) Massive amount of injuries across entire roster, most notably Ainias
5) Insubordination by key players
6) Inconsistent QB play (maybe can tie to the OL issues)
7) lack of discipline (see all the terrible penalties)
8) inability by the defense to get off the field in critical situations
9) run defense

Great, have injuries on there multiple times. Maybe you should have added injuries after last season as well.

Insubordnation by key players??? Which big contributors are you talking about? That is worse than having one of the worst rush defenses in the entire history of Aggie football??? And that is worse than the defense not being able to get off the field???

This thread was on Durkin not the multitude of offensive problems. I still stand by that Durkin should have already been canned. No excuse for teams like Troy performing better defensively than A&M give the talent at A&M.

Bunk, I gotta run but I do agree with some of the issues you brought up. Not trying to make it sound like just 1 issue here.

I do think brighter days are ahead for A&M football.

Imagine thinking Durkin has done Ok this year and isn't a problem. It's ridiculous how so many of you on here take up for Durkin. He has been pathetic this year regardless of how putrid the offense has been.

I knew our offense would probably struggle this year. New QB, Spiller and Green gone, top playmaker gets hurt and out for the year. However, I thought our defense would be lights out this year. A bunch of playmakers on that side of the ball. And yet teams like Troy have actually played much better defense against common opponents than A&M has. That can't happen.

A&M's scoring defense is 39th in the country at 22.9 pts/gm.

If we had a real offense that could do better than 5 three and outs to start every second half, IMO they'd be top 20.

I get we all have a very bad case of BAS this fall, but the over the top criticism of Durkin is borderline neurotic.

I totally disagree that our defense would be ranked higher if we had a good offense. Just the reverse would be true. Right now the offense is so bad the opposing team usually has the lead and no real threat to losing the game so they can just milk the clock.

After the horrendous start against South Carolina we get back in the game and it looks winnable. The defense promptly lets South Carolina march right down the field with a long scoring drive causing us to lose the game. We get close to Ole Miss and the same thing happened. Any time an opposing team felt threatened they easily ran the ball and scored against us.

Considering the talent that A&M has, the defense has been atrocious this year.

You keep harping on the SC game as if that one drive defines the entirety of the defense all season. You know A&M had the ball 3 more times after that, right?

A&M's 2nd half possessions:
7-plays PUNT
4-plays PUNT
3-plays PUNT
3-plays TD (after the A&M DEFENSE recovered a fumble at the SC 24 yard line).
5-plays PUNT
3-plays PUNT
4-plays DOWNS
7-plays FG
2-plays END OF GAME

The A&M offense scored a single TD in the 2nd half after the defense recovered a fumble at the SC 24 yard line & had a whopping 116 yards before the 83 yard FG drive (when SC's defense was in prevent mode).

At the end of the 1st half, A&M had 52-seconds and the ball at the A&M 20-yard line and ran ONE PLAY and let the half expire. Our genius OC had wasted time outs because he can't get the plays in on time. 52-seconds is plenty of time for a decent offense to get in FG range (and Bond kicked a 48-yarder last weekend so basically A&M only needed to move the ball 49-yards to get in range).

The SC game is not a good example of the defense underperforming. They only gave up 23 points to SC, one of which was a 19 yard drive after an interception (the second A&M turnover of the game). SC had only 286 yards of total offense for the entire game but was leading 17-0 with 13:16 remaining in the 1st quarter. You need to use the FL (when half the team was sick with the flu) or Ol Miss game to pick on the defense.

Durkin is a problem, but not the biggest problem

The offense being fixed has to be priority 1
