For the life of me I can not understand why LJ didn't see the field this year and why CW wasn't starting in week 1. And why we use a 3 man front on defense.

Here it is in a nutshell

LJ or miss should have been the spiller this year, only getting at least 30% of the Carries instead of 60%

Weigman should have been the game 1 starter

And 3 man front should rarely be used except in retain circumstances

We start the fane against the number 1 running team in the conference and we come out in a 3 man front

Mind boggling

Do you happen to know the OL starting 5 or the snap counts for each position all year? Some consistency (just being healthy enough to play and playing together) from these current guys will go a long way toward the offense looking more competent.

Achane would be more successful if he actually rotated with a more physical back.

Which is exactly why he was so good last year. Jimbo usually has done well rotating. Not sure the reason for not this year. Perhaps our complete inability to block on interior runs could play a role.

I would be okay with a transfer portal RB and a few OL.

Just in case Jimbo is waiting on my approval!

Yeah, this is my biggest issue with Jimbo right now. Between Covid rules and the new transfer rules, there is absolutely no excuse for your team to be young.

If we had a bunch of Weigman or Stewart like studs, it would be different, but Oline and RB recruiting are where we have been the weakest comparatively. Meaning we are using 4 stars instead of 5 stars.
We've lost 5 OL since Spring.

Chibuzo - In June. He played Center. Medical retirement
Luke Matthews - In April. Medical retirement

This past week, we lost 3 more - Bryce Foster (C-So), Aki Ogunbiyi (G-RS So), and Jordaon Spasojevic-Moko (G-RS So).

By April you are well past the Transfer portal.

You get 85 Scholarships. 25 per year. How many would YOU allocate for OL? 'Cause we lost an entire depth of OL. You likely don't want more than 5 in a given year.

This was our lineup:
LT 60 - Zuhn (RS Fr)
LG 75 - Dewberry (Fr)
OC 77 - Wykoff (RS Fr)
RG 64 - Robinson (RS Jr)
RT 76 - Fatheree (So)

TE 42 - Max Wright (Sr)

2020 Signed OL:
Morris - Left team
Ogunbiyi
Bankhead
Chibuzo
Jefferson - Rumored Medical retirement, talks of moving to DL. No longer on roster?!

2021 Signed OL:
Foster - 4*
Fatheree - 4*
Zuhn - 4*
JSM - 3*
Strickland - 3*

2022 Signed OL:
Dewberry - 4*
Williams - 4*
Erb - 4*
Nabou

I was told in another thread that we aren't unusual when it comes to the number ofOL injuries we have….so that must mean other teams have more on their rosters….

So, 480 yds. of O is not enough? Okay.

The back so many want to replace had 124 yards IN THE 1st HALF last night. When we subbed him out on a key 3rd & 1, Moss didn't do squat.

Problem? Achane finished w/138 yards of our 142 total yards on the ground. What happened to the run game in the 2nd half?

We still have a load of issues on the offensive side of the ball, a lot of it involves WR blocking, separation, play selection, lack of motion(see Ol' Miss O), to name a few. Will those get better?

Getting better at those things will make a better O.

Did you notice the formation that Toombs ran out of? The I-formation. I'm the foremost advocate of the I-formation on Texags right now and would be happy to be known as the "I-guy" henceforth.

Rest of the RBs can't pass block to protect CW in game plan nor run routes that Fisher wants…that's the issue on a simplified play book. If they were coming in, it was a 100% run play giveaway.

When Moss came in for either the 3rd or 4th down run, he didn't follow the fullback (FB went left and had a nice hole, Moss went right and didn't gain a yard). Think that hurt chances of see anyone else.

But, Achane needed a breather to be fresh for 4th qtr. and a solution is needed.

#22 might be a HOF runner one day. Don't want my comments to sound negative. However, I recall him playing on three plays - one play each - in the last three game. Got the ball on each play including a CRITICAL third and one last night when Achane was shredding the D on the ground. We were stuffed on the play. I suggest that Jimbo maybe use #22 on a decoy at some point. The DC probably knows what's coming. The

Which is the most disturbing thought about what happens if he decides to concentrate on the draft. If he decides to hang it up, what proven back is there to take over the load, and at what effectiveness? If he decides to go, there goes the only proven attack to help out the OLine to pass protect. Scary thought, to say the least.

Most every school comes up with serviceable running backs that can carry the load if the blocking is there and we can't. That's pretty hard for me to fathom. We have some good guys not getting Reps. I dunno why.

Remember Achane his freshmen year, he played he was good enough. Corbin and Spiller played too early, if the young guys were ready they would play.

Also the number one thing Fisher has to do is to get his upperclassmen players to return for their last year.

The teams A&M loses to have a bunch of 4th and 5th year players. Anybody like that at A&M is going to the draft to get drafted in the 7th round if at all.

jaquizz Rogers had a successful career in the NFL. Achane is similar in his game and physical makeup.

The lack of RB rotation is absurd. We have very talented backs behind Achane. Dumbo just doesn't like to rotate backs for some odd reason. Jimbo needs to give up COMPLETE control of the offense to a new OC next year, but probably won't happen.

Fisher cannot think fast enough to even CONSIDER rotating RB's during a game.

Doesn't he compare to a Christian McCaffrey…size, speed, etc? If he focuses solely on football and puts on a bit more muscle, my opinion (which is like most on here, uneducated) would be that he could be a great scat back, has good hands out of the backfield, etc.

You could do this with entire offense. Except rb they arn't playing or are terrible. Why I think Fisher can't recruit. His 2020 and 19 oline class is why we are here. Only 1 player stepped up from those 2 classes and has come and gone. Robinson is not doing well since getting hurt last year. Now the 2021 class has no one taking that next step. Sevetal njuries. Which makes me think the strength program is crap. Would like 1 or 2 to contribute starting their sophomore year. Not just play but play well.

We do not have a depth problem at RB. We have a do not use our RB depth enough problem. I am encouraged to see us starting to use a two back set a little more.

Well since LJ and amari aren't available any longer, our depth has been decreased greatly.

The lack of any RB rotation this season is very perplexing. Spiller was a GREAT RB and even then Achane was getting some carries and touches.

I don't understand why LJ wasn't getting 20% of the RB carries from game 1. I don't blame him for transferring out.

There needs to be a much better RB rotation, or some rotation at all.

After Saturdays game:

Aggie Offense: improved

1st down offense 87th
3rd down conversations: 105
Total offense: 95th

Defense:

Total defense 69th
Scoring defense: 26th

Still easy to figure out where the problem is at

How do running backs get better at reading the blocks and the holes???? By getting more carries.

How about using some of the other backs in situations other than one or two 3rd and 1 or 3rd and Goal plays a game.

Achane was gassed a couple of times but stayed in. It would have been better to bring in a fresher back occasionally. Ole Miss did it plenty in route to 390 yards rushing

Achane is a great runner but his blocking is a liability and probably drops him to third round imo.

I don't think Achane will go. Or I should say I don't think he'll be as high a pick as we all expected he would be prior to this year, and that has very little to do with what he has done running the ball this year.

He's a bad blocker, and that has been highlighted this year as he stepped into the primary RB1 role. When he gets his draft grade after this season, he might be inclined to come back to school, run track, and try and improve his draft grade.

Selfishly I hope he returns.

There is no reason right now we couldn't run several two back sets. This would allow more carries for one of the other two, but also allow Achane to run or go out for a pass...which would often be a mismatch.

We ran off Deneric Prince (3 star) who averaged 10.5 YPC for us to Tulsa where he averages 6.3 YPC. Be nice to have him in the rotation.
