Seems like you're creating a strawman that makes this less about the stupidity, lack of maturity, and lack of discipline involved when taking drugs before a game, and trying to make it about the legality of weed.
I'm all for legalizing marijuana. But that's not what this is about. You wouldn't be virtue signaling about the legalization of weed if players were in the locker room getting drunk before a game, which is legal. But the problem is the same.
Like I said, if it goes against Jimbo's rules then they should suffer the consequences. But the consequences should not reference Reefer Madness to determine the severity.
Smokedmarijuana, regardless of how it is smoked, can harm lung tissues and cause scarring and damage to small blood vessels.
Smoke from marijuana has many of the same toxins, irritants, and carcinogens (cancer-causing chemicals) as tobacco smoke. VASTLY LESS THAN BIG TOBACCO ADDITIVES IN CIGS Smokingmarijuanacan also lead to a greater risk of bronchitis, cough, and mucus production, though these symptoms may improve whenmarijuanasmokers quit.
To understand the specific effectsmarijuanasmoking also may have on other respiratory diseases like emphysema (lung condition that causes shortness of breath) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) but you're right, we should use aggie football players like we do C57 BL Mice.....
THC, which stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, is the substance in marijuana that gets you high. Research shows that vapingTHC oilwhich is a common form among vapersdamages your lungs and increases your risk of negative side effects. Other ingredients in vape products harm your lungs, as well. Potentially Fatal Lung Injury increases significantly if your vape product contains a chemical called vitamin E acetate. In 2019, an outbreak of severe lung disease from vaping was found to be this vitamin. The disease was named EVALI, which stands for e-cigarette or vaping use-associated lung injury. In the first few months, more than 2,500 people were hospitalized or killed by EVALI. Among those people:
- 82% had vaped products that contained THC, often along with other vape products IT WAS NOT BECAUSE OF THE THC
- 33% exclusively vaped THC-containing products IT WAS NOT BECAUSE OF THE THC
The Centers for Disease Control (although being corrupt just like the FDA) and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration recommend against all vaping, but especially recommend not vaping THC oil. IT'S NOT THE THC
The risk is greater from illegally manufactured or modified vape products, DING, DING, DING! HERE'S YOUR WINNER! which are more common in states where marijuana remains illegal (Like TEXAS). However, even with legal products, vapingTHCoil just one time can significantly harm your lungs. AGAIN, IT WAS NOT BECAUSE OF THE THC ... IT WAS ALL OF THE OTHER ADDITIVES
Geez, do some research sheeple! Don't just fall in line with the narratives distributed by big pharma and "independent government studies"
THEY (collective) do not want THC to be legalized, ever! It is a threat to their bottom line.
THC is really, really bad on the developing brain. Full brain function development can range up to 18 or even 25 years old in some populations. (I believe some never reach it here on TA) So no, healthy persons should NOT be smoking or consuming marijuana or it's byproducts prior to that. THC is NOT the "enemy" that it is made out to be. In fact, it can and does replace many synthetic "medicines" that are vastly WORSE for the human body.
Yes, these players are really taking a chance with their cognitive brain developement at their age. If they were binge drinking alcohol they would be putting themselves at some risk as well. If they are prescribed opiod pain meds, you guessed it, there is some long term risk with those as well.
So don't go all holier than thou on the weed. It may actually be less problematic than alcohol and other "medicines" that they take!
Sounds like a lot on here are calling the players out because it was weed. But it's illegal, you say! So is alcohol unless you are 21. What if they were popping Oxycotin/percocet in the locker room. Would you still crucify them? What if it was prescribed to them?
It ain't the fact they were smoking weed. It is the fact they were smoking weed IN THE LOCKER ROOM. That shows very little maturity or respect for the program as well as coaches. Break the rules, suffer the consequences.
Old Army ain't all bad!
