I did a double take when they said "the pride of Victoria,TX", and apparently nobody but Houston Baptist offered

Dude was probably well under the radar playing in Victoria. Nobody purposely recruits Victoria or South Texas from the big schools, the further you go south of I-10 across the state the the more the D-1 talent pool turns into a dried up puddle.

Zero star recruit. I don't see any difference between Zappe and Mac Jones, and I'm a fan of Mac.
El Campo isn't South Texas - that's more a burb of H-town than South Texas and is part of the old lower Colorado river rice belt and the historical demographics that were forced to live there to work the land.

For those not in the know,
Zappe played four years at HBU in Houston. His OC got hired at Western Kentucky, and Zappe followed him there. Zappe lit up the Southland Conference for four years, and then broke Joe Burrow's records for passing yards and TDs in a season at WKU.
I believe a few of his stud receivers at HBU also transferred to WKU for that season.

Yep, WKU hired the OC (who I believe is now with Texas Tech) and then basically portal'd over the entire passing attack.
Making a WAG this player was considered not big enough to play QB at a P5 football program

El Campo is the gulf coast, as somebody above said, it's rice country. Definitely not a suburb of Houston by any definition.

I went to an HBU game a couple years ago because the campus is nearby and I had no other games I cared about that day. Would not have guessed I would be seeing a future Patriots QB on that campus
