We need an onsides kick no matter what. Just take the points and then try your luck instead of wasting more time. Not the worst plan.
Would have taken too long to try to maybe score. FG guarantees an onside kick with a little bit of clock.

We needed the FG when the flunky announcers were calling for it, not the play Jimbo decided to do it.
So 1st and goal is a worse opportunity to a throw a TD than a hail mary? WTF??
It isn't the right call. Say we scored on the next play... then the onside kick still happened. We kick a long field and limp away with another ****ttty win.

We needed to score twice. The FG gives us a shot. We had a chance despite everything.

That would have been a 65 yard field goal after the onside kick. Not enough time to throw down the field and set up for a reasonable length FG with no time outs left. This sequence was about the only thing Jimbo did correct tonight.
Exactly!!!!! Get the TD, then the onside kick, then position themselves for the field goal. The kicker has a lot better chance of score from 50 yds than the offense does scoring a touchdown. The field goal made no sense.BeatHellOutOfTU said:

It's not. Maybe had he kicked the FG earlier to save some time. But once that close just go for the TD. You have to have it one way or another. Then run a quick out after the onside kick and hope for the best

Well yeah that's the problem. They even said as much during the broadcast. He waited too long to give us shot.

By delaying that FG attempt, when you know Randy Bond can hit it, you give up valuable seconds we need to win the game after recovering that onside kick.JFABNRGR said:

At that point you are at real risk of only having enough time for one play after the onside kick, and we have better chance throwing from 50 than kicking 67 yds. If you are throwing from 50 then it doesn't matter if you get 3 or 7 now.
Absolutely the right call at that point to take the points and leave yourself a shot. Bigger question to me is if we should have kicked earlier.
