ASHBURN, Va. -- Former Washington safety Deshazor Everett was sentenced to three months house arrest stemming from a December car accident that killed his longtime girlfriend.

Everett, sentenced Thursday in Loudoun County General District Court, also had his driver license suspended for six months. He was given 12 months of house arrest but had nine months suspended.

He also must pay a $2,500 fine and perform 100 hours of community service.

It happens more than you know. I arrested a man for DWI, oh 12 years ago or so. Dude killed 2 people and badly hurt a 3 person. Long story short, the "DWI offender" only did 4 months of weekend time. He would turn himself in on Friday night and be out on Sunday afternoon.

Find the right lawyer, pay the family a bunch of money. Amazing what you can get away with.

3 months of watching The Price Is Right for recklessly killing someone. That is as light as it gets

That's crazy. I knew a guy who messed up and crashed after having some drinks (no idea what his alcohol level was). Someone in the other car was killed, and he was sentenced to 8 years. Not sure how much time he did but it was at least several years.

It's all about who you know and how much money you have.

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, evidence was presented during sentencing that data from his car's black box led Loudoun officials to estimate Everett was driving between 65-69 miles an hour and that he did not have drugs or alcohol in his system.

Wait, what was the crime then? Forgive me, but I thought he was intoxicated. My mistake.

I thought I remembered this as well

He was speeding but did not have any intoxication just not a very good driver apparently

It's why he pled down to reckless driving. Initial reports said he was going 90 and it sounded worse. Apparently it was a bad accident that he was responsible for but it wasn't that fast and wasn't due to substances

Any idea what the speed limit was in that area? That speed alone isn't dangerous/reckless, but if the limit was 30, that might explain some things.

Not starting anything, just curious… do you still think he got off light?

light, except knowing he is responsible for his girlfriend being dead.

Lotta bad takes on here. It was well established when the news came out drugs weren't at play.

It is a terrible accident that can really only be summed as a tragedy. A person he loved died because of his actions, definitely the worst punishment

i think that's adequate. Prison would be too extreme for driving 69 mph but he should still be held responsible.

For the most part it is rare to get jail time for an at fault traffic accident unless drugs or alcohol involved. The civil liability is usually steep if you have any assets.

Accidentally killing your girlfriend is bad. But it's not Thomas Johnson bad. Given all that's come out, the sentence is probably appropriate.

Virginia s crazy. I've ready auto blogs of dudes' being arrested for 30 days for driving 60 in a 35.

As an M5 owner, that is cruising speed that seems very slow.

The speed limits in northern va are also stupid low. If traffic is light it's really easy (especially after a visit to Texas) to find yourself going 15 to 20 over…

I got zero problems with spending time in jail for going 71% over the posted speed limit. 35 is a semi-residential road and are likely to encounter walkers, cars turning in and out of retail and residential, cyclists, and possibly even kids.

Only stupid teens and grown ass hats are doing 60 in a 35. Buying a high end sedan doesn't give you the right to excessively speed with zero cares about the safety of others on the road. No one cares you drive a BMW.

All I am saying is Virginia is notorious for having very low speed limits. That 35MPH speed limit in Virginia is probably 50 in almost every other state.
