Has no one from the B1G noticed?

They are all watching on TV. I'm sure the ratings are through the roof. Lol

To turn a phrase…

We're gonna need a bigger tarp.

Are we sure they aren't requiring proof of a monkeypox vaccine for entry?

This might be the single best post anyone will see this year!

Rose Bowl is a long way from campus and they are on the quarter system so classes don't even start until 9/22 plus it was unusually hot for LA 106F and no shade in that stadium- will be interesting to what attendance does through the season.

They will probably lose a lot of games so attendance should stay pretty sparse.

Oh please. The PAC has been trotting out the same lame excuses for decades. It's hot, there is so much to do in LA, we have beaches. Blah blah blah. There is no passion for college football in LA. The performance of UCLA and USC are obviously not helping but the floor for football in LA is incredibly low we are seeing that now. USC has the most exciting team since the Pete Carrol era and their stadium was a quarter empty for their home opener.

I should say the California schools, not the PAC. There are loads of passionate PAC fans once you leave the borders of California.

My other favorite is the complaining about the rose bowl. Half the time it's complaining about how the sight lines are terrible and it's got no shade. The rest of the time they can't shut up about how beautiful and historic it is. The truth is that is absolutely sucks as a stadium but it's so historic they can never change it. It's like they are playing in a awful museum.

The best comparison I can think of is if A&M or Horn were stuck playing in the old cotton bowl forever. The only difference being that A&M or horn would blow up the old cotton bowl in a heartbeat and rebuild a palace.

yeah, kinda like horn stuck playing their real rival ou in the cotton bowl every year and how several years ago the sips decided to blow up the cotton bowl in a heartbeat to rebuild it into a palace--that one right???

just kidding with ya' rootube . I just don't see LA caring enough about football to rebuild the grandaddy of 'em all. what is the payback when they would just as soon kill off football anyway...

To be fair, that tweet is referring to USC as being the LA market.

When football becomes more popular in Asia and south of the border, this football thing is going to TAKE OFF in the LA market. I promise.

UCLA has a lot of fans. They are fair-weathered. They do get ratings.

USC's fan base is bigger and more dedicated. Still soft by SEC standards. They get even better ratings.

The B1G knew what it was doing adding the 2.

Los Angeles is easily the biggest fair weather market in the nation. If either UCLA or USC are winners the stadiums are full. Otherwise nobody cares. Source: have lived in Southern California 75% of my life.

I'm willing to buy their excuses based on my very limited sample size of catching the week 1 matchup versus OU a few years ago… the setting was nice but it was so hot in the stadium and the atmosphere was not collegiate in any sense that I recognized esp the lack of students and band. And since we drove over from campus- yea it was pretty far.

I guess I'd take Kyle Field over the Rose Bowl for any regular season game and opponent for a game day experience.

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 22 The Washington Redskins' season of bold conquest ended today with the burgundy and gold battered and blue.

In the most one-sided game in 18 years of Super Bowls, the Los Angeles Raiders defeated the Redskins, 38-9, before 72,790 at Tampa Stadium, denying the Redskins' bid to win a second consecutive National Football League championship.

Many heroes created this domination by the Raiders (15-4), but the greatest hero of all was running back Marcus Allen. He ran for a Super Bowl record 191 yards on 20 carries, scoring two touchdowns against the league's top-rated run defense. This included a Super Bowl record 74-yard touchdown run at the end of the third quarter that increased the lead to 35-9, finishing the Redskins.

How strange it all seemed. The Redskins (16-3) had won 31 of their last 34 games, 11 straight before reaching what might have been their greatest moment. Instead of becoming the fifth defending champion to repeat, they suffered their worst defeate since a 38-7 regular-season loss to Pittsburgh in 1979.

If the 1983 Washington Redskins had won the Super Bowl they would still be considered one of the all time great teams in NFL history.

They went 14-2 and the two losses they had to Dallas and Green Bay were both by a single point.
11 of their 14 wins were by more than 9 points. They were also the defending Super Bowl Champion.

The Los Angeles Raiders winning Super Bowl 18 is still one of the bigger upsets in Super Bowl History.
