Pittsburg released Jace. Hope he finds a home but it looks a little grim right now
This. It's interesting how some really good college players just don't translate to the NFL. I guess a big part of it is the huge step up in competition sheds light on their deficiencies. He wasn't a good enough blocker to stick around as a traditional TE, and there are just too many faster WR/TE combos with better hands.TX_Aggie37 said:
Some guys just flash in college and never make much of a pro career. Good luck to him on his next endeavor, whether it be in the league or elsewhere.
So 1/10th of $2.5M is $250k. The NFL minimum is $705k this year and was $660k in 2020 which would have been the year he came out if he stayed in school.Knoxville_Ag_08 said:
I 2nd this - his stock would not have gone up much higher. A TE his size and speed would not be drafted much higher than he did in the 3rd round.
I used to be all for staying longer, but I have started to move toward leaving.
He's made $2.5M in the NFL which includes never starting and being suspended for 2 games.
He can go back to school if he wants, but if he blows out his kneed his Sr. Year - he could have made 1/10th of that for his career.
Figured this would only take 2-3 posts. There was little reason for Jace to stick around, his stock wasnt going to get much higher and he started to his his ceiling. Unlike some other players around that timeframe, his decision to leave was 100% correct.JimAggie said:
Yet another Aggie player that should have stayed another year. He wasn't ready skill-wise or mentally. Hopefully he can find his way.
Exactly. This is not a Jalen Wydermeier situation. It's more like Trayveon and Spiller, neither of which had and any left to prove in college.Charlie Murphy said:Figured this would only take 2-3 posts. This. It's not just about the blocking because nowadays move TEs don't even have to be much of a blocker. RSJ has carved out a nice 4-5-year career and he never even played the position in college. You can't tell me he's such a phenomenal blocker either, but he's good enough at what he does to stick around. Bottom line, Jace just isn't good enough.SinKiller said:
I think it's more of the fact that he's not good enough, not good enough to be a WR and not sturdy enough, to be a TE. He's a tweener. I think Jimbo throwing to the "TE" got him those accolades. The NFL is just a different game, it doesn't translate for all. He got some good coin, but I think short of the NFL pension, that's the gravy.
