It's always "Wait until next year!"

There's no reason we shouldn't be at least a 10-win team every year at this point...but we continue to under perform.

Kind of like 2012 and 2013. This year not next though we will compete hard for it again next year.

If I go back to when Jimbo was originally hired and we are all being honest.........

It was always the 2022 season that was circled as the year that Jimbo MUST shut down all the talk & any excuses to produce a CFP team. Certainly in my twisted mind. He has had 4 full recruiting cycles and is going into his 5th season.

But enter present day and it is ANOTHER year away still.

If this crap makes its way into the 2025 season, I think I will laugh myself to a painful death.

Last year was really painful to watch and I hope an immense learning experience that is never replicated by Fisher. I have high expectations for 2022 but I still am willing to point to 2023 as the make it or break it year.

They say Fisher has highest amount of pressure of any coach in 2022. Probably true for the national media. But internally that pressure is not a concern until at least 2023. That is when we start taking a page for the sips and our money men start trying to manipulate the situation and create some change. Of course, all our boosters are experts in college football, just like the sips. So if they force the coach to make a drastic change, it is always a good thing.....

Go ask Charlie Strong or Herman or Sark. They can tell u more.
Jimbo has the best job in college football from a pressure standpoint...

We actually had a great/elite year a year quicker than I thought. I expected to go 8-5/9-4 in years 1/2, then have a nice little bump in year 3. Maybe going 10-3. We went 9-1 and won an Orange bowl. So we actually exceeded expectations, even though there is this narrative we always underachieve.

Then of course the QB injury set us back last year. Return our starting QB from last years (I believe) 10-2 team had King not gone down and we wouldn't be saying it's next year. We'd all be predicting an elite season this year, even if not outright the national championship. But an 11-2 or 12-2 type season.

Now, that said, 2023 and 2024 are clearly better teams on paper. But just because 2023 and 2024 are better teams ON PAPER, doesn't mean we aren't already going to be a great team this year.

Also....

Saying CFP or bust is on you, and no one else. I mostly want to be a 10 win team year in and year out. I do think that begins this year, and would have in year 3 if not for A) covid shortening 2020 and B) King going down. JMO of course, and no way to prove it.

But ultimately, if beginning this year, we start to win 10+ every season, the chips eventually fall your way. I think that starts this year with a 10-3 or 11-2 record. But I never was thinking by year 5 it was playoffs or bust, even though we all want it just as bad.

This year: I think the floor is 9-3, and the ceiling is 11-1. I am predicting a 10-2 regular season with losses at Mississippi State and Alabama. Between 9/24 and 10/22, we will play four games away from Kyle Field. Hopefully, we can walk out of that stretch at least 2-2. After that stretch, our only remaining road game is the game at Auburn on 11/12. I am expecting us to win every home game, including games against Miami, Ole Miss, Florida, and LSU.

Next year: We will have a more favorable schedule for winning the SEC West. We will have home SEC games against Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, and South Carolina. As usual, we will play Arkansas at Jerry World until 2025, and our road games will be at LSU, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. I believe we can beat Alabama and finish 11-1 or 12-0 to win the SEC next year.

In the last 23 years from 1999 to 2021, we have won 10+ games just once, which was an 11-2 finish in 2012. Of course, that includes a 9-1 finish in the pandemic shortened 2020 season that included a cancelled home game against Ole Miss. We finished 9-3 in 2006 and 2010 regular seasons, but the lopsided subsequent bowl loses prevented us from winning 10 games. Hopefully, we can start winning 10+ games every year starting this year with occasional CFP seasons.

I don't like to harp on it because it's done, but I agree we could have been a 10-2 team last year and people would be saying a totally different things about us. But hopefully this year will get that conversation started.

Jimbo shut down talk in 2020 by going 9-1 in the SEC with the only loss being @ eventual runaway NC Bama, and winning the Orange Bowl to finish #4.... in my mind we should have finished #2.

The #1 class was recruited off that season, we have been rebuilding since then and are now at a point we will reload.

I expect to be very good this season but a legitimate SEC and NC contender next year, not just based on our team but also based on what Bama will be losing and having to replace and play at Kyle Field. If we can get them in the front half of the schedule and beat them, they would be chasing us the rest of the way, vs. the other way around.

No matter how highly rated a true freshman is and how high his upside ceiling and potential is, an 18 year old true freshman on the OL or DL, is simply not ready to play vs. upper echelon SEC teams, with extremely rare exceptions.

As a long-suffering Texas Aggie, I don't want to make a prediction. I am excited about this year just like I am every year. We do have a ton of talent on the team… I just want to enjoy the ride. 9 more days!

In a thread of speculation and opinion, this is the correct answer.

I agree. We should have 10 regular season games last year, especially with a win over Alabama. Losses to 9-4 (4-4 SEC) Arkansas and 10-3 (6-2) Ole Miss were understandable, but losses to 7-6 (4-4 SEC) Mississippi State and 6-7 (3-5 SEC) LSU were inexcusable. The most puzzling loss was to Mississippi State because that turned out to be our only loss at Kyle Field last year. Before that game, we had won 9 consecutive home games, including 6 SEC Games, and our previous loss at Kyle Field was a 47-28 loss to Alabama on 10/12/19.

Home losses under Jimbo Fisher
2018: 28-26 loss to Clemson
2019: 28-20 loss to Auburn and 47-28 loss to Alabama
2020: none
2021: 26-22 loss to Mississippi State

Jimbo Fisher is 21-4 in home games, including 12-3 in SEC games at Kyle Field. Hopefully, we can go undefeated at home for the 2nd time in 3 years.
