When we opened against FSU at the Meadowlands in the late 90's, was that week 0 or 1?

If we would cut out the GD cupcakes, we wouldn't have this issue.

None of those reasons are why big schools play cupcakes.

These games are played so that FCS programs can exist. A&M paying Sam Houston to come play us week 1 is the way that Sam Houston is going to fund their football program.

People hate on SEC schools playing these games, but if we didn't, there would be no lower level of college football, and a lot less opportunities for kids to play collegiate sports.

That's not true at all.

We don't play those teams "so they can exist". Lots of FCS schools don't play FBS teams and they exist. And they managed to exist for nearly 100 years before they started scheduling themselves as sacrificial lambs.

A&M etc aren't in the charity business. In about 4 years, these games will be no more. And they won't be missed.

Actually a great idea of course Jacksonville, Tampa, Houston, SA , PHX etc Are not great destinations in August
And having the 13 th game in week 0 would reduce opt outs

Iirc we also played Nebraska at the meadowlands
& Stanford in Anaheim

Oregon vs Georgia should be good
West Virginia vs Pittsburgh on Thursday
Clemson vs Georgia tech on Monday
Tcu vs Colorado
Florida state vs lsu
Cincinnati vs Arkansas

It's not a horrible opening weekend.

That's a very good week 1. Thread about week 0 though

Regular season college football should be played on campus

Playing at campus stadiums just has a certain energy and feel to it that makes it college football, especially for week 0.

Playing in Dublin just isn't the same

A bowl game in Dublin may be ok. Call it the European Bowl and rotate cities in Europe.

The game is already nearly sold out with 5k tickets left. Would be the first sellout at the sun bowl since 08. It also should be UTEPs best team since 05.
