Underrated moment in Jimbo's presser

For a brief instant, Jimbo drew a contrast between Bobby Bowden and Nick Saban. Here's a coach who worked for both men, and all 3 of them won national championships. He's talking about 2 of the top 10 all-time coaches, and he rips Saban and praises Bowden. I had always thought pretty highly of Bowden, but you never know for sure. I think, in the heat of the moment, brief though it was, Jimbo gave a pretty amazing and unwitting eulogy.

I agree. That was the most savage moment, yet stealth.

...alluded that he and Bowden were brought up the same way. St. Nick...not so much.

Maybe not underrated, but understated...

"we are always going to be here..."

If you look at the history of Aggie Football, we were supposed to stay in a "box" as t.u's little brother in the SWC, and later in the Big 12. A cute, tradition conversation point, but a byline. Read Jacke's book, expecially the first few chapters. The media and writers (i.e. College Football) did not want us out of our box and were offended we started to break the confines of said box.

Those words "we are always going to be here" is telling of our never ending fight to break the hierarchy of the media/writers and traditional football powers that are continuously propped up by them.

He's spot on; Bobby was a real gem while Saban is just a bush-league cheat & *****!

Still, there are those who have tried to excuse Saban's comments- including Deon, because why would "the goat" even stoop to such a low? Why? Because he isn't a 'Southern Gentleman' like good ole Bobby!!

Consider if Saban's allegation was just to invigorate boosters all-the-while believing he wasn't being filmed, he would have issued an apology & clarification the very 1st thing this morning since it broke last night; however, I think Bama believed it would result in good PR, so he/ Bama did nothing. Jimbo gave him time to untie the noose, then went scorched earth mid-morning to address the BS lie.

Sure, there are Jimbo detractors, but most of the pundits & social media agree that Jimbo came out on top. Hell, BOTH coaches could be manipulating the situation for PR reasons, but the biggest loser in all this was Sankey; his initial failure to reel in Saban & Kiffin, and Saban again, gave rise to this public spat. Slive would've NEVER let this happen! Sankey publicly proved he is as compromised & weak as the NCAA.

Funniest part is that it wasn't even a press conference. It was essentially a response video.

A bunch of reporters showed up asking about it and Jimbo probably said we'll have a gd press conference right now and air this **** out.

And he did.

Nothing against former ball coaches but A&M has desperately needed a coach who would stand up for the program the way Jimbo does.

I believe Jimbo moreover was talking about having worked for both and that he would gladly work for one again and not the other. Every school, especially the big ones, were doing some things that weren't on the up and up back then.

Every school, every alumni base, and every head coach, and every person has some skeletons in the closet. But Jimbo took the whole "whataboutism" response that people will throw back at A&M, and he cut it off at the knees. Imagine that you've spent your whole life becoming the very best at your profession, and then a world expert comes along and tells you that none of it mattered because you're a bad human being. Saban has to wear that now. He can beat Fisher 70-0, but he's still no Bobby Bowden. Brutal.

It was more than just a rivalry between two schools in the old SWC. The frat boy culture shared by the four private institutions and Texas was the foundation of the conference, and A&M's only intended role was to be a source of amusement and ridicule for the privileged class. To a lesser extent, they viewed Tech the same way. The big market media stood firmly behind that original social pecking order, taking every opportunity to slap down any school that tried to disrupt it. And by "any school", I mean A&M.

Jackie stood up for the program...leadership/we didn't stand behind Jackie (if you're old enough to remember). Young Ag's at the time the Jackie deal "scandal" went down know what I am saying and they are the old Ag's today. There's a difference and a reason things are they way they are today. Many lessons were learned from that time period. One lesson learned, you don't abandon your Coach.

Loved this quote from the Washington Post

"It turns out two of the best, at two crown-jewel programs in the same insane division of the same insane conference who once won a national title together at a different school in that insane conference really hate each other."
