Has the 4 team Football playoff turned other bowls into the equivalent of the NIT Basketball Tournament ??

…or worse ??

They crown a champion in the NIT. The other bowls are participation trophies so much worse by definition.

Absolutely not.

You know during the season when we are playing Arkansas and, let's say, Duke is playing Clemson.

A bowl game that's not in the Playoffs, is like that. Only the fans of those teams will care about their respective games.

A bowl game was an exhibition game when the NIT was a far more prestigious post-season tournament than the NCAAT. Hope that helps…

No.

But the Bowl games have less meaning now.

The bowl games are just extra games on TV for people who enjoy watching football. If you happen to be home and enjoy watching football, they're great.

Bowl games are a joke now. Players don't even want to play in them. We reward teams with .500 or worse records a bowl slot because ESPN needs programming.

Josh Pate he totally changed my stance on the playoff precisely for this reason. "Meaningless bowl games" is an injustice to the sport.

If the people that hate the bowl games would actually watch them, they'd find that they are usually fun and entertaining games, compared to the playoffs that are almost always blowouts.

Bowl hating season ended six weeks ago.

More people watched the Potato Bowl than will watch the NIT final four games.

The "more people watched" argument is a little misleading. ESPN very cleverly schedules bowl games - mostly - when there is no other live sports programming on TV. Plus, bowl games are aired when lots of folks are off work, out of school, etc. It a good move by ESPN, but it's not like a regular season Saturday when there might be a 7 or 8 games going on major TV all at one time.

63 teams make the NCAA tournament that do not win

That's enough to make 31 bowl games that don't really matter.

There are plenty of ballgames and no one gives two craps about except her parents but none are happening on New Year's Day or traditional Powerball's because they're always great match ups with grade teams that we actually wish we would've seen during the regular season
