COLLEGE STATION Texas A&M receiver Demond Demas has been arrested on a charge of assault family violence that occurred on Saturday, according to a probable cause statement obtained by the Chronicle from the Brazos County Sheriff's Office.
According to the statement, the alleged victim who was Demas's girlfriend, "Reported that the defendant pushed her head into the wall. Then she bit him on the shoulder. (She) reported that the defendant then grabbed her and threw her from off of the bed onto the floor, which caused her top front teeth to go through her bottom lip.

"The injury caused bleeding, loose teeth, swelling and a hole to the bottom of the lip. (She) stated that she and the defendant had been in an intimate dating relationship for a year."

A&M athletics responded that Demas has been suspended from the university and is not with the football program as of early March. Demas is currently being held in the Brazos County Jail.
This isn't the first time Demas, a five-star recruit out of Tomball in the class of 2020, has been accused of hitting a girlfriend. Last year the mother of an alleged victim reached out to the Chronicle saying she could not get into contact with A&M's coaches concerning Demas striking her daughter, who was Demas's girlfriend at the time.

Following an investigation by A&M police the Brazos County district attorney's office ultimately declined to press charges, and no arrest was made a year ago. A law enforcement official said at the time it was a case of "she said/he said" and there was not enough evidence for an arrest.

In addition a year ago College Station police arrested Demas on a charge of possessing less than two ounces of marijuana. Also, Fisher deemed Demas "unavailable" during two of A&M's games late in the 2020 season for an undisclosed reason, and he returned for the Aggies' Orange Bowl victory over North Carolina.
This past season Demas played in 10 games as a redshirt freshman before an injury sidelined him for the last two contests. He had a lone touchdown catch for 70 yards in A&M's win over New Mexico in mid-September.

I understand your outrage, but you're mixing up the two separate incidents. The one he wasn't charged for last year didn't result in loss of teeth or biting through the lip. Seems like there was no visible harm, so likely not enough to charge.

Not defending Demas but from the material you provided apparently the 'he said/she said" referred to an previous incident a year ago which the police couldn't substantiate and thus 'no charges'. The most recent incident (at least the way I read it) there was some evidence a fight and Demas was arrested. I guess that is the way I hope things work. When evidence supports testimony, I expect police to act. And looks like they did.

There is a gray area if you're restraining them from causing you bodily harm. Anything more than that, then I'm with you. Obviously not the case for Demas here.

You still have not got over Joe Mixon? Really?

The reasons why Joe Mixon was eventually exonerated and allowed to continue his athletic career:

• The video shows the woman (not a girl), Amelia Molitor, putting her hands on him first before he responded which makes her just as legally culpable of assault as well as Joe Mixon.
  
• Amelia Molitor also had previous convictions which would very likely have been brought up had the matter been pursued further on her part which would have eventually made things much worse for her reputation-wise.

• As a result, she made the only smart decision on her part to drop the matter which resulted in the MUTUAL settlement by both her and Joe Mixon.

That being said, I am not for anybody physically assaulting anybody except for justified self-defense.

that has to be in the contract

"you will get paid x amount per month as long as you are both enrolled and on the team. x amount more if you are a starter. if you are dismissed from the team, transfer, or otherwise make a choice to breach this contract as an athlete, you are responsible for x amount in damages. if you are dismissed from the team due to an athletics-related injury you will be paid x, if you have an off field injury then prior terms of voluntary breach are enforced"

I knew things just seemed to be too quiet around the program. Then a story like this pops up. I hate offseason. Too much time for some players to do something stupid.

He's never going to be a major contributor to the team, cut bait and move on. We have good #s and talented kids coming in, but they need to be brought up to speed and on the field game 1 for next season.
