Dan Marino and Vince Young are holding the QBs down!

I'm surprised the Wonderlic test hasn't been banned for being racist yet.

I'm surprised -- but I suppose I shouldn't be -- how those averages are all relatively close together.

I think that A&M should use a modified version of the Wonderlic when recruiting HS players, as well as the Caliper or other Behavioral Assessment.

OL is one of the most challenging positions as far as reading defensives and changing assignments on the fly.

They already have that. It's called the SAT.

Unfortunately, the players aren't required to have much of a score.

Surprised DT/DE are so high and DB so low. I'd have had them swapped if I had to guess.

Vints really dragged down the QB score.

Me too. I would say LB probably would be the highest defensively, but followed closely by DL/DE

Three points is not a big difference.

With today's offenses and rules benefiting them, DB's need to have short term memory and not get too philosophical about the rules that probably hamper them the most. It's a kind of "shut up and do your job with one hand behind your back" job description.

The Wonderlic isn't a football test. It doesn't have anything to do with rules. More of an analytical test that favors quick recognition and mathematics.

That's probably also true. But in my mind the big dummies from HS were DL. I know because I was one of them...

The NFL just announced it would no longer use the Wonderlic, with teams facing significant fines if they conduct themselves "unprofessionally" in interviews with players.

Probably a fair statement. I think the test's main function is to assess one's the ability to process information. So those that can do it faster are going to have better scores. Of course, education is also going to play a real factor as well.

Took a sample and only scored a 40. Got 3 wrong and didn't finish the test.

The way we used to administer the test was in two phases. A 20 minute prelim test, and a 7 minute actual test. The score from the actual test was all that mattered and a wrong answer was the same as no answer.

A person scoring a 40 in 7 minutes would be considered top 10% intelligence. The average college educated person would get about a 30 if I remember correctly.

I saw that the NFL is not using it. I can't say it surprises me and I know they put out that touchy-feely statement. But the reality is the NFL is so specialized with highly trained individuals that the usefulness of the test likely wore off a while ago.

My old coaches always said the OL's need needed to be the smartest players on the field.

I thought they were just saying that to make me feel better about getting put there.

Not surprising at all actually. OL are always the smartest overall (guess this proves that).

You can pretty much guarantee that the average scores pretty much lined up with the racial mix of the position groups with them being higher the whiter the group which in today's world means it is a racist test.

They don't list results for kickers or punters. If they did, I'd be willing to bet they would be in the top 4.

Yeah, Vince Young, lol. He's borderline illiterate. Apparently he retook the test and scored a 14, which still isn't good.

Anyone who's played or coached football at any level should know that the wittiest conversation always takes place among the quiet O linemen while "skill players" strut around waving their arms and crying like they're the only ones who care about winning or losing.

Not surprising they have the highest scores.
Little Rock Ag

I've heard for years that offensive linemen were the most intelligent players, as a rule.
