I think of "trap dooring" as you no longer have a scholarship here. As far as I know they aren't doing that .

Deondre Jackson committed to A&M 2.5 years ago over some big time offers, including some SEC competition.

Since that time he's been working out and busting his butt for A&M football.

We should all thank him for his efforts and wish him luck elsewhere, and hope he becomes a dominant RB1! Good luck Deondre!

This. As long as a player is doing their job and working hard, it's just a matter of too many great guys and too few spots. Wish him the best of luck and hope he does all wherever he goes.

We could also see some of these new recruits grayshirt. That's where they delay enrollment until next January, therefore not counting on our 85 limit until the 2023 season. This is useful if we are expecting a lot of upper classmen to finish or move on after this upcoming season.

This is the correct stance.

Most coaches at class programs will keep a player on scholarship for 4 years, as long as he behaves. Especially the players he recruits.

Doesn't it suck when you have to do this to 3* guys… man what a time to be an Ag

Always thought we underused him. Dude looked good when he actually got playing time. Hope to see him go somewhere he gets a decent amount of work

Help me out, what does "trapdoor" mean in this setting?
Anyone using the term with regards to this young man doesn't understand the term.

To "trapdoor" a guy is to pull his scholarship. Like the old cartoons where you see a guy standing in front of a desk and the boss pulls a trapdoor that shoots the guy outside.

If a heart to heart is held with a guy and it's made clear he may see some special teams play but he is not going to see significant PT, then he's likely best served entering the portal. His scholarship is not going to be pulled, but all parties would be better served with him choosing to leave.

Would expect 2-3 transfers soon from the DL...crowded with the studs coming in.

I doubt it will be Jordan Jefferson. Good kid. Great story of Jimbo not pulling the offer. Love the kid.

Seems like he will always be a proud Aggie, and kinda feel the same about RJ Orebo. On the surface, it seems like being an Ag and part of the team is more important than being assured of playing time elsewhere. Like having these type kids as part of program. (Just not too many of them)

Being told there is no possibility of playing time because of your position on the depth chart and the team is over the 85 limit is just a indirect way of saying that you need to transfer because your scholarship is going to be pulled.

I couldn't disagree with this more if I tried. Being told, "reality is that you'll never play" and "you don't have a scholarship anymore" are light years apart.

The Ags are over the limit , people who had scholarships last year will not have a scholarships next year
BECAUSE their scholarship has been given to a 4* recruit ; most of the players whose scholarship was given to a new recruit will figure it out and transfer quietly with the help of the A&M staff.
The last handful of studs that signed with this class (which made this class a historic class) mean some guys who had a scholarship have to go
Call it what you will and obviously Just my opinion these guys are leaving because they won't have a scholarship because the Ags are over the 85 limit

One of the unfortunate realities of recruiting at this level is that 3-star guys won't have much of a chance unless they are extremely underrated or extremely hard workers.

Every 3 star we've ever signed is criminally underrated, haven't you heard??

Yep. And every 3* will turn out to be like Johnny Manziel and light up CFB.

How interesting: he announced that he is no longer going to Nebraska.

Quote:

Tuesday afternoon, former Texas A&M running back Deondre Jackson announced on Twitter that he "will not be attending Nebraska anymore." No reason was provided behind his announcement. Jackson did thank Husker fans for welcoming him into the program.

After committing through the transfer portal, Jackson did not enroll at Nebraska for spring football but was expected to join the program for summer workouts. Now it appears he'll be looking for another school.
