This is probably the most a celebrity death has had an impact on me in a long time. An absolute legend, and a great person too. RIP coach. I hope they fired up the teleprompter for you upstairs

A sad day in sports history, for sure. Even if one didn't like the Raiders back in the 70s-80s, John Madden was an exceptional coach, then became a superstar as an announcer. I would rather listen to him calling a game then anyone else. . .it wasn't even close. RIP, John Madden, you will be missed.

He had some great lines.

For example, the ref's left foot or right foot determines whether the spot is a first down.

And there was the Madden bus because he refused to fly.

He was quite a character, a great coach, and an informative and entertaining announcer.

My Dad loved this guy and the 1970s Raiders. Always told me Madden coached mostly convicted felons. Only coach could keep these guys from killing the other team.
